9422 plinkin'

Post by gamekeeper »

I've never found a cartridge my 9422 did not like, however I had run low of CB longs and the sub sonic rubbish I usually use, so I checked my supplies and found I still had lots of CCI Mini Mags that I bought when I had a Henry Survival Rifle (AR7) they were the only rounds that were 100% reliable in it.
Anyway I took my beat up old 9422 and some HP Mini Mags over to the chalk pit were I plink and try out guns, well I put up some empty 20GA cases and at about thirtyfive yds and it was way too easy, so I looked around more difficult targets and found some empty 2"(yes two inch) .410 shells well they went the same way, so thinking this is all too easy I started blasting pieces of chalk at the far side of the pit, I was impressed with that little Winchester, she certainly shot well, she's my only keeper, I think I'll mainly use Mini Mags from now on..

The mini-mags have an excellent reputation hereabouts. I personally like the Winchester PowerPoints.

I picked up a real nice 9422 at my club last Thursday, I won't say how much I paid for it to avoid any tears being shed here:D :D
That being said, I had a real variety of 22 ammo with me that night and it digested them all very well. I know I am going to enjoy it for a long time. :D :D

It seems that lots of rimfires (.22LR as well as .22WMR) prefer the 'hottest' rounds out there. Maybe it requires some 'upset' of the bullet to dig into the rifling, or maybe the higher velocities optimizes RPM for a given length, but whatever it is, 'light' loads seem to not work in any of the .22 LR or .22 WMR's I've owned, handgun OR rifle.

GK, mine does well on almost any ammo too and also likes the mini-mags.

I recently tried a box of CCI Velocitor and they are outstanding too :D

My 9422 eats pretty much anything I feed it. It usually gets CCI standard velocity, I buy them or Federal by the 500 packs.

Just stirring it up a little, but all target loads are pretty mild stuff.

That's true but I find when plinkin' rather than shooting paper targets the extra wallop make the targets jump, explode or just disinergrate making (in my mind) the gun seem to be right on the button, were as on paper what would what could count as a flyer may have just nicked the rim of a coke can and sent it flying.
Anyway it's still the best fun you can have with your clothes on..
