Very cool and thanks. Think we'll ever have another celebration like that again? I kinda doubt it.

Locally, we hold a celebration for every returning vet. We get together The Patriot Guard, Blue Star Mothers (my wife's group) The Marine League, Phun Time PT Cruisers, A.V. Service Dogs and several other local groups to welcome them and honor them.

My sis sent me that video last year. When I was kid back in the early to mid 1960s my family lived in Waikiki a few of those homes were still standing along Kalakaua Ave. and the Waikiki Theater seen in that video was still in operation I believe into the 1990s. Went there quite often as a teenager to watch flicks. I hate going into Waikiki now just a total tourist trap.

I was stationed at Schofield 73-74, and it was a tourist trap then, too. Pearl City Tavern was about as close to Honolulu as I cared to get. Do they still have the Monkey Bar?

Sadly the Iconic Pearl City Tavern finally closed it's doors in 1993. It was demolished and a car dealership stands at the site now.

One of my favorite restaurants was Three Fountains in Wahiawa. In fact, I hung out in that little town, and fished in the canals that circled it. I knew about tilapia before the Howlies did 8)

I still fish "Lake" Wilson in Wahiawa occasionally usually for Largemouth Bass, and Peacock Bass with the occasional Snakehead and Channel Cat thrown into the mix. The Peacock Bass fishing can be quite excellent especially in the spring when they are spawning.

I think Dot's is the only old time restaurant still standing left in Wahiawa.

Gary - That is just top notch, what you all do for the returning vets. God bless all of you folks. That is just fantastic. - DixieBoy

Ji, when you went to Haliewa, and had to go right to the North Shore, there was a big Taco Stand on the right, and a pink stucco Restaurant/Bar on the left. Neither one was very good  They were good places for a White Boy from Schofield to get his butt kicked.
