Help with Rossi 92, won't feed 357 at all but it loves 38's

Post by 357dude »

I finally got a Rossi 92 in 357 mag but I'm having a major problem with it, it cycles 38's perfectly but it won't feed 357 mag ammo at all.

I searched the entire WWW to find information on how to adjust it to feed the 357 mag but found nothing.

I found a similar topic for adjusting them to shoot 38's. The fix was to reduce the clear space between the cartidge guides. Mine feeds the 38's perfeclty, should I enlarge the space between the cartridge guides to get it to feed the 357 mag ammo?

I also read that cutting two coils off the ejector spring helps smooth the action. It ejects the shells very well right now. The only resistance I feel in the action is right at closing the lever so should I cut maybe one coil off the ejector spring before reassembling my rifle?

In playing with the rifle shortly after bringing it home I can already tell that it's going to be a favorite. I really hope I can fix it to shoot 357 mag.

Thanks in advance for your help,

I have an early Interarms Rossi that had the same problem. Would shoot 38s all day long but I couldn't get it to feed more than three 357s at a time. I sent it off the Stevesgunz ( one of the sponsers of this site). One of his action jobs and new sights it has become one of my favorite rifles. Glass smooth action and feeds everthing I can put in it.

I need to try to fix it myself before spending more money. My gun budget is pretty tight these days, 2 kids, wife, mortgage etc...!
I'd really appreciate some how-to advice.

Thanks

Maybe Steve's DIY DVD would be a cost effective answer for your problem.

Steve also sells a DVD for $29.95 that tells and shows you how to take it apart, slick it up and you end up knowing it inside and out. My son and I used it a couple weeks ago to slick up his 20 inch .357, man, what a difference! Go to his website, and contact Steve, he'll also know what's wrong with yours and how to fix it.

For starters have you tried different 327mag ammo? all leverguns are length and bullet shape sensitive to some degree, particularly pistol cal guns because the ammo is never tailored for them. Like semi-auto handguns, they can be picky about what they will run on.

Thanks for all your replies.

I spoke with Steve and he gave me some guidance on how to fix it...Thank you Steve!

Since I first posted I stripped the wood stock and refinished it...I know why they used the dark stain...what an ugly piece of wood!

Sanding it I could smell the wood and because of the smell I think the butt stock is some type of teak. If you haven' t smelled fresh cut teak...you don't know what your missing! The forestock looks like a piece of mahogany.

I'll post again after I get it fixed and put back together.

Regards,
