Current state of Marlin QC?

Post by nralover »

Have there been any developments? My store has but two levers for sale. A 336Y and a Mossberg 464. I have heard bad and good, but I need a new .30-30 and those are my choices. FWIW, they are both under four hundred dollars. Any honest assessments?

I can't say about the current state of what Remlin is producing, but given the options you mention, I'd be hitting the Pawn Shops for an older Marlin.

Really good advice.

time to check gunbroker.com ... :)

i presently own two REM-Marlins,
bought them this year--Feb. & April.
have a 1894c and a 336BL. both
work fine, fit and finish is good, no
issues to report--have over 300+
rounds down-range...that's my
experience... :)

I'd say give the Mossberg a close look, especially if you'd rather have a new rifle. My walnut pistol grip stocked 464 is well put together, has been surprisingly good mannered, and it's accurate at 200 yds with Win 150grn ammo. I think their initial extractor issues have been worked out and it's a decent gun; not a Winchester 94, but a decent 30-30.
