Some of you boys go fire a shot for me. This is another Independence Day I won't be doing any shooting. Those of you who lived close to our place know the gatherings we used to have on this day. We started the day off by singing a verse from THE STAR SPANGLED BANNER and firing the black powder cannon ... folks would come from all over and by early afternoon the range was full of shooters ... the barbecue was going ... out in the pasture we would blow something up every now and then just to let folks know we could ... the machine guns would come out and everyone would take a turn.
They were fun times ... even if it did attract Black Helicopters ..
Good memories of good times and good friends. So those of you who can .. go fire a shot for me and if you have the capability, a small explosion would be nice.

Well Jim T and the rest of you folks, I slung a little lead this morning (actually, 230g. JHP's) over at our range in Malabar. Even before noon it was scorching hot, so I shot only about 50 rounds .45acp's, at the steel plates.
Funny thing, I had forgotten my eyeglasses at home. I'm nearsighted, and for a lot of stuff I don't wear them. Was about halfway to the range when I realized that I'd forgotten them, but I did have some yellow tint shooting glasses in the bag that I use for guests. I wore those just to stay safe. Paced off a bit over 50 feet and was still able to knock down all the plates, though not as fast as I can with my glasses on.
Darn it was hot. This was right around 11:00 a.m. to noon, and I was wiping sweat off my face between every single magazine. Given that it is Independence Day it was still worth it. A small tribute to the brave men who fought for and won our freedom for us. - DixieBoy
When the People Fear Their Government There is Tyranny; When the Government Fears the People There is Liberty.
Thank you one and all! This evening we visited with some fellow Americans, grilled burgers, made french fries and had a nice time. Would've loved to been with you, shooting some of your ammo but it was a nice day here in spite of being halfway around the world.
I am constantly amazed at the day and age we live in. Forty years ago we were doing missions work in Mexico. No phones .. no cell phones .. no computers .. no internet. We packed up .. left a map with an X on it and said "We will be about there. If we ain't back in two months come looking for us."
Nowdays I can fire up my laptop and talk with my daughter and see her at the same time. We have a lot to be thankful for.
America may have its issues - and it does - but it is still a great nation and it will come through these times also. Yes .. things ain't like they used to be and some of us old fanny burbs know exactly how much they have changed .. but change is life. As the Sioux put it "ONLY THE ROCKS REMAIN". Or as the lady who wrote the book of Hebrews said "Here we have no continuing city but we seek one to come."
Blessings to all of you .. HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA!

Here ya go Jim, the sound of a model 94 Winchester.
