Yesterday was the 1st of March and another winter storm dropped 14 inches of snow here in Maine pushing our winter snow total to over 100 inches. It's hard to believe spring is officially less than 3 weeks away! As much as I love winter and snow, I'm very ready for spring to arrive this year. In northern New England, though, March 21st is just a date on the calendar. Last winter we had our biggest snow storms the last two weeks in March and the first week of April. If that happens again this year my deck will be completely buried!
It was especially beautiful this morning with the new snow and I took some pics:
My deck is elevated 4 feet and totally inaccessible this winter!
Has been a good year for snowmobiling in northern New England but I'm afraid a bad year for the deer. At least there hasn't been long period's of bitter cold, this help's them some. I want it to MELT.

Looks beautiful,
but I wouldn't want to live in it. We had a pleasant 90 degrees yesterday and today is forcast for the same.

In all honesty I do love the snow. It would not be winter without it. But the deer herds tend to suffer in northern New England. There are some huge deer in Maine. It is not unusual to see deer taken that dress out well over 200 lbs and some close to 300. But the population is rather sparse. I know that the deer are suffering this winter due to the added snowfall. I hope that the Maine fish and game is going to take that in consideration for the upcoming season.
We have a fair amount of snow up were too. Official count is 285 cm (aprox 111 inches) not a record but getting there. I drove around today where the deer yard up. Good hard trails for them to walk on, local farmers giving hay and grain. Stopped and watch people throwing carrots at a group of 15 or so. they all looked healthy and in good shape. We are supposed to get warmer tomorrow 45 F and some rain. Our local groundhog said early spring, he better be right or stay in his hole this summer when I have my 22 hornet out.
