New D-Day monument

Post by 2ndovc »

Thought this was pretty cool!
I'd forgotten Maj. Winters died last year.
Ever since I was a kid I've been fascinated with the D-Day invasions.
Amazing stories out there and we're losing these guys at an alarming rate.

Barry O couldn't find time in his busy schedule to commemorate one of the greatest and most profound events in World History.

Pretty sad.

God Bless them!

My grandfather at age 34 left his farm(enlisted)and was in on the invasion at Omaha Beach.( he left his wife and daughter to tend the farm)asked why he did that-----------------he said "I want this war over" and want my four sons home.
They all served-----my one uncle(still living and healthy)enlisted in the Merchant Marines at 16---he then went on to serve in the Marines/Navy/Army(4 branches)
I am astonished he did this and always talk to him about it--------------He blows it off and says(only thing that pi##es me off is I didn't serve in the Air Force

What a character this man is! (I don't know anyone else that did that???)
Even today,one word for him--------------intense!

Pre-invasion recon pic of one of the beaches to check the defenses. Taken by an F4/F5 Lightning IIRC. Note the German troops and French workers scattering.
If these walls could talk, I'd listen to the floor.

That was a great day for our nation.
