I'm all suited up and ready to go to San Antonio

Post by O.S.O.K. »

My son's appointment to the AF academy comes with some responsibilities for his Dad... I get to go with him to meet Sen John Cornyn and General Rice - that oversees the academy and a bunch of other stuff. Two hour meet and greet with speeches I guess.

Had to drag out the suit - as it's "business attire" - my wife thought it was business casual but no, says "attire" - meaning suit. Was hanging right where I left it from my daughter's wedding! :o

I am a business professional and never don a suit for my job any more - other than interviews...

I bet a lot of the other boy's dads had to scramble to find one... just so seldom that they are needed these days.

I'm interested to see how this goes... I'm one to not want to go to such usually but this is for my son and it's an honor and all that so I'm thinking positive....

Cornyn's not a bad type.

If you have the time (MAKE the time), visit Lackland AFB. Watch the basic trainees doing their thing, tour the base a bit. It's the home of the rest of the Air Force, and it'll give him a little of a clue. That and Randolph have been around since the USAF was the USAAF, and there's a lot of history there.

I always found the "high & mighty" amusing. Often taking themselves far too seriously. :P Rare does a bird of that breed have a sense of reality (humor about them).

The whole thing went well - Cornyn gave a short but really pretty good speach and was not at all self-indulged. I think he's OK. I didn't know he'd had the background that he did - District Judge, sat on the TX Supreme Court, etc...

Interesting to see the different kinds of kids that are appointed...

And did you know that the Merchant Marine has an academy? Yeah.

Merchant Marine Academy - we played them in football in 65, Joe Paterno's brother was their coach.

Shush! Let's keep the Merchant Marine Academy a little known secret until after my sons decide if they're interested.
