Movie - Battleship

Ain't bad.

Good to hear. I want to catch it before it gets knocked down a screen size or two, which has probably already happened.

I still want to see it, but it got nailed in the box office this weekend. Only opened to about $23 million. They were hoping for $35-$40 million. "Avengers" is still # 1 at the box office (3rd week out) and stole a lot of the movie-goers. It has topped the $1 billion mark globally, and is now the 4th highest grossing film of all time! Hard to compete with that!!!

Only seen the trailers so far but interesting to see Honolulu, and the Kaneohe Marine Base under alien attack.

The Japanese Navy is actually quite helpful in this particular story.

I saw it and thought it was good. I don't pay much attention to what the self-appointed "critics" say about a movie. Saw one they were just fawning over themselves about how great a movie it was. I thought it was a piece of junk.

Only drawback, is why did they put a Vietnam War protest song at the end of the movie?

Because they are Hollyweird. Anything that they can protest as a "message," after making their millions from displaying the very violence that they claim to be against (of course), they will protest. Just as long as they get their $$$. In the vernacular of Groucho Marx, "The secret woid of the day is 'hypocrisy.' "

Spoiler Alert - so don't read this if you don't want to hear anything specific about the movie.

I thought the "attack weaponry" of the aliens was a stroke of genius on the part of the movie producers and Hasbro. Think about what they looked like and what they did - impaling themselves into the ships before detonating. They looked like the pegs used in the "Battleship" board game!

The only cool thing was that the ships facing the aliens were destroyers - until the end, when the ultimate battleship was brought into action. Again, cool.

If you stay all the way through the entire credits - which, after the Marvel movies, I now always do - you are treated to a final seen, setting it up for a sequel.

Just came back from the movie with family - a daughter and wife - as part of my Father's Day.
The Rotten Tomatoes website didn't exactly pan the movie, and they and another site described it pretty fairly. A few scenes kept me on the edge of my seat. But then, I like science fiction with alien invasions and shoot-em-ups and a scary part or two and good special effects. This had all of that.

The movie was unusual in that it starts out rather humorously and looks to be a "boy finds girl" movie for its character development; but after about 15 minutes or so the invasion story begins.

The employment of our current (and past) military firepower was pretty cool, and of course the alien firepower was different and entertaining. There were some suspenseful moments to keep it stitched together. It was kind of like "we are all united to get those bad aliens," like the Will Smith movie, "Independence Day." As such, it leaves you with a good feeling IF we beat those alien boogers. On the other hand, IF it ends up that we lose, then at least you are left with the idea that we all died as brothers (and sisters) trying.

Er...that last bit was written so's I don't spoil the ending.

There was nothing wrong with the special effects - they were well done. From where I sat, the movie was not as good as "Avatar," but still quite a lot of fun, in my opinion. It was PG-13, so it was a family movie for us - tasteful and yet entertaining. I have to protect my 34 year old daughter from the bad stuff, ya know. (Edited - Avatar, not Avitar)

What?!?! Don't you mean, "After Ferris Bueller's Day Off". . . ? :D

I'm surprised y'all are saying it's good. The previews looked too much like a Transformers movie, and I only liked the first one of those.
I may give it a try with all these glowing endorsements.

Avengers was great! Saw it twice. I'm also considering going back to see Prometheus a second time on the big screen. It's a Must see for any Alien fans. (not to mention Charlize Theron and Noomi Rapace fans)
