Solar eclipse this evening

Post by olyinaz »

I dragged out the old Olympus and took a photo of the solar eclipse this evening. Not too shabby considering how close it was to the horizon (down in the atmosphere and dirty air). You can see the mountains on the edge of the Moon and some sun spots. :)

The Eclipse was schedualed to be in full "shadow" (don't know correct term) at 6:24 PM yesterday in Southern Oregon. At 6:10 PM the fog rolled in; visibility at 6:20 was mebbe 200'...

We live just north of Kanarraville utah by a dozzen miles. Kanarraville was suppose to be the bullseye of the best view. We came back from mesquite nevada passing kanarraville about 6:15 pm. There were thousands of cars parked everywhere they could to watch and take pictures. We got home and theresa got some black garbage bags and doubleing them up worked. Without the bags it was no big deal, the sun as there but things looked kind of gloomy, not as dramatic as you would think. Maybe it looked gloomy because I lost in mesquite.

Nicely done! Are you otherwise an astronomer? We had an annular eclipse visible here back in the 1980's, I think.
