Need a part for a Win 94

Post by perry owens »

I don't much care for the 1894 action in pistol calibres but someone recently gave me a broken one for free, so I feel obliged to get it shooting. It's a .357 and the cartridge block is broken - rounds just slide under the carrier when the action is cycled. UK Winchester importers aren't interested in importing $5 parts so I was looking at US suppliers. The only one who lists the part as in stock is Midwest Gun Works, but they will not ship international. Can anyone point me in the direction of a possible source?

Perry, that part breaks with some regularity. Casting flaw? Too brittle? I'm not sure why. The best fix is to have the tip built up by welding or brazing and filing to shape. They seem to last just fine that way. If you want, I can get out the camera and some calipers and get you the dimensions of a new one. I happen to have a new one sitting beside a broken one waiting to be built back up.

The .357 in a rifle becomes a different round altogether with much better ballistics and low recoil when compared to the larger diameter pistol calibers commonly offered.

Tycer,
That will be every useful as I don't have the broken tip for reference. Even if I manage to find a new one I can try to repair the old one as a backup.

Perry,

Tycers pics are excellent. One other thing I learned from NateKiowaJones about the 357 Win 94s. The links were sloppily fit and that can contribute to the breakage and Under The Carrier Jams. So that's something to check as well.

Tycer,
I think I may have confused you with the terminology I used. The tip on the link has already been welded and reshaped, what has broken now is the little spring steel part that screws to the lever, as shown in your last photo.MWGW call this the cartridge block

ahh. They break too. Added because of the small case head. They get all twisted up when they break. The guns seem to run fine without them. PM inbound.

The lever link is not an inexpensive part at $60 per.
