Re: How do you get around?
I traditionally preferred to hunt on foot, but having passed six decades of age my arthritic knees and general poor condition have caught up with me and I had to resort to other means of woods travel. The many roads in the National Forests and private timberlands of Northern California are great for hunting by vehicle, but as I usually am alone, fuel for my Ford F250 diesel is far too expensive for that, especially since I am retired and on a modest fixed income.
Since I hunt only deer, and our local Blacktails are pretty small, I thought about getting an ATV, but they are too difficult for me to transport (especially if I'm taking my travel trailer for an extended hunt) and they require special off-road licensing. The ideal solution for me was to buy a Honda Trail 90 motorbike. I found a great 1978 model locally on Craigslist with only 1,400 miles on it, and paid just $800 for it. A little tune-up and it runs super, getting around 100 miles per gallon of gas. It is licensed for street use so no off-road license is required. I bought one of those motorcycle transport racks that inserts into the hitch, making loading and unloading easy. I used the Trail 90 last season, covering an average 15 miles per day, and actually was successful in bagging a Blacktail buck. Here is a picture of my Honda from last season, taken above Whiskeytown Lake. That's my Browning 1895 in .30-40 Krag in the scabbard.

Re: How do you get around?
Usually feet. But have hunted from a canoe and an borrowed ATV. But, I like to drive into a camp, as when I backpacked... it was rather a spartan living style for the week or so we spent there... my 1-ton dually can generally haul a pretty lavish camp!
Edited: Actually when I say I've hunted from a canoe and ATV, what I should've said, was I've used them to get myself and my gear to a camp or stand and back. Actual hunting is either walk-n-stalk, sit-n-stand, otherwise known as the AMBUSH!!!!

Pair of Danners. Size 8.5 fueled by a good breakfast
I laugh at the out of staters who come up here to Neb to hunt pheasants and they bring their ATV's. What the heck do you think you are going to do with that?
Same for deer hunters. Good grief, walk into your deer stand (if they have one, me suspects they may use the devices for other than simple transport to and from)
Work with a guy who goes to Colorado every year elk hunting. Private ranch. Has never killed an elk. Know why? He won't get off the ATV. He can't figure it out.

Re: How do you get around?
Got a Yamaha Grizzly 700 Outdoorsman Edition 4X4 ATV.(But when I hunt/I walk it)
I drag the deer out myself too.
The Grizz is for playing/plowing/recreational fun
Maybe when I get older possibly might have to use it someday when I can't walk well.(hopefully not for at least 40 more years)
Got a nice canoe/boat for fishing though!

Re: How do you get around?
Drive to and from in either my 4wd Dodge PU or my old Jeep Cherokee. But only walk once I start hunting. Very little irritates me more than to have my hunt disrupted by ATVs riding around. It may not bother the game but it sure bothers me. I only hunt private ground, NO public hunting.

Re: How do you get around?
My everyday truck (tacoma) and feet. I hunt public land in pa. No vehicles allowed. I currently hunt land close to where equines are kept and I can use the horse and mule to get the deer off the game lands if need be.

On foot, More of a stalker, than a tree stand hunters, part of the reason I dig 94 Bigbores.
Re: How do you get around?
In California, it's on foot from the trailhead.
In Alaska, we use ATVs at times to get into some really deep areas, then walk the remainder of the way to our hunting spots.

Re: How do you get around?
Usually just walk out the back door and go for a walk. Sometime I drive to my friends place and walk around his place. I usually use my quad to drag out anything I shoot of any size. Just have to walk back home or to the truck to get it. Usually no more than a mile or two away.

Good orning
Down here in the Arequipa area I use a Kaw kdx 200 out in the desert. Pretty well will get to most any AO I desire to explore. There are basic mine trails every couple miles so from there it is cross country between the old lava flows, rocks, cactus and sand pits which are to be avoided if possible. I do have a Suzuki Samuri for those few times I have another shooter along but far slower and cannot match what a 2 wheeler will do.
