A lot more character on that one than a new reproduction though --- i like it :) (but naturally, would have liked it more at $800 )

The heavy diameter and the non-Winchester ramp.

Here's my thinking on this 71---"Assumming" that the stock was not cut, it would be a joke to put on the proper buttplate. Original barrels are all over the internet for 2 c-notes, so for about 14 c-notes, one could have a decent "original" Model 71.------Sometimes it ain't worth the aggravation, unless you could beat the guy down for a $800 out the door price.-------------Sixgun

A good example of why it's a much better bet to buy a Browning Model 71 carbine.

It will nearly always be in better condition and for like condition you'll pay 1/2 or less. More likely 1/4 !

You're much more assured of a gun in very good condition.

Thanks guys, I know I should be looking at browning for the price. That's about the only carbine model 71 in my budget.

Walker,

I just did a search for a Browning 71 carbine. Took awhile to find one not sold and here it is.

Appears 1000-1300 is the present price range for one in very good to like new condition.

Not a bad BIN price, Don. If someone "needed" they should be all over that carbine. :)

I sold mine for $400--new in box. But............that was when they first came out. I only had it for a week and that "Made in Japan" bothered me so much I sold it for what I had in it.---------Sixgun
