Universal Clays in 44mag

Post by Buck Dane »

I was reading J.Taffins book on 44's today and wondered how 10gr of Universal would compare to the 10gr load of Unique he uses. I have been using the 7.5gr Universal load in 44spl for years and it works great. I know that alot of the loads for Unique and Universal cross, just wondering about 10gr load.

YEP, IT'LL WORK FINE.
STRANGELY I HAVE FOUND 10.0grs OF HERCO TO OUTSHOOT THE 10.0grs OF UNIQUE OR UNIVERSAL LOAD IN ALL MY 44MAG SIXGUNS WITH 240 TO 250gr KEITH OR KEITH STYLE BULLETS.

Dean Grinnell spoke very highly of Herco. The stores I frequent never seem to have any when I think of it.

I like Universal Clays I use a scoop, so its about 9.6 gr. or so, but works great. I have had good luck with it with 240-300 gr cast and jacketed bullets. It makes for a very easy loading, easy shooting fairly accurate load.

Thanks for the info. I kind of want to stick with the Universal as its my powder for 41mag, 45acp, 44spl and 45colt. I know other powders will work better, just want to buy the one powder. Of course I have to keep some 2400 around for my 32/20's. Maybe should find a load of Universal for them too.
