**UPDATE**How about a Ruger "Combat" Vaquero

Post by jdad »

I'm not a real big Ruger fan, but this is one nice, custom, revolver I wouldn't mind owning. I hope Mark gets the description posted fairly soon.

http://www.gunauction.com/buy/11042998/ ... ra-quality!

5/5/12 I stopped over at the "Dog's" house and got to handle it. If Ruger would ever produce something of this quality, even with a 50% premium, they would sell a ton. The sights are a HUGE plus and the in your hand it has "balance" that is amazingly perfect. Unfortunately this will probably double in price, from where it is now.

That is one fantastic looking pistol. Don't expect it'll go for anything remotely close to that price!

Bowen used to have on his website under "projects" or some such--but I could not find just now--a description of his concept. He said he wasn't sure of the viability (market) and at the time was not specifically adding to his catalog, but it ws an interesting exercise. A few years ago he wondered--almost on a lark--about the idea of a "combat Vaquero." This was pre Montado, but was Sheriff length and low hamered (Bisley) and basically foretold that gun pretty closely. Although other than a just-so action job my .357 Montado doesn't have Bowen's added custom features--scalloping, sights, etc, it inspired me to get my Montado in the first place and soon order his ring (installation--by local smith--not for novices, largely becuse of the internal cramped quarters with the lock).

My idea of "combat" in this case was as a great trail and fishing companion :) which it's acquitted itself very well as....but I wouldn't be opposed to carrying it for SD if the need arose.

I LOVE THOSE SIGHTS. I would add a round butt and call it good.
Nice revolver.

I want it! But I wish there were more of a description. What was done to the innards, are half moon clips needed for the ACP or is the extra cylinder chambered for 45 ACP, etc.

It's a single action - no half moon clips needed.

Don't worry, Mark will post a highly detailed description by the weekend. I'm actually thinking about calling and going over to his house and seeing it in person....it's really growing on me.

After picking up a brand new .357 New Vaquero and shoe-horning a Power Custom hammer/trigger kit in and new Altamont grips, it'll do me for a home defense hand gun. New sights look good though.
