anybody watch pawn stars tonight

Post by fordwannabe »

Tonight on pawn stars they got an 1886 in and they took it to the range for a shoot off with some modern rifles. When they showed pictures of the target though all the bullets had landed sideways as they passed through the paper. I think somebody needs to slug a bore.
My question though is could anybody tell the caliber it ended in WCF so that narrows it down some. Tom

Yeah I watched the show and thought it might be a 45-90 from the look of the cartridges Rick was loading in it. They actually had a close-up of the loading block with the cartridges in it. Looked like someone had loaded some kinda long bullets which I know will key-hole out of the 45-90. I kept thinking, "hey, I've got the correct screw to replace that broken one". Was a kinda nice 86 though but I gave a lot less for mine.

Undersized bullet or more likely a seriously rusted and pitted bore. Rick got seriously bit on that one!

You have to shake your head at some of the info and practices on there, but at least it's mostly positive press for firearms. Guns are less of "the boogey man" to more of the masses watching these shows, I'm guessing. I will never understand having to shoot aged pieces of history, made of questionable steel, to prove they are more valuable. Eventually, your gonna get bit.

I caught the end of it when they had the shoot off. Looked like Rick took the ammo out of a factory box so he may have loaded some 45-70 ammo. One thing that the shop has stated several times is that they only buy pre 1898 guns (antiques)

Rick stated in the show the rifle was from the early 1890s and in one shot it clearly showed on the top flat of the barrel W C F just couldn't figure out which one.

If it was a 40-65 and they were shooting PMC ammo I'll just about guarantee key-holing. I lucked up on 10 boxes for $10 ea and most of what I measured were .405- .406 bullets. Lucky for me the brass was worth bout what I had in ammo. Rick talking about the 86 being the cowboy gun that won the west almost made me spit out my mouthful of Bryers ice cream. Me thinks a little more research was in order.

I thought the same thing when he said it. To give Rick the benefit of the doubt, though, maybe he was talking about Winchesters in general. Either way, though, he woulda been wrong. The single-barrel shotgun was really the gun that won the west. It was cheap, could be used for all kinds of hunting and defense, and everybody had one.
