Here in central florida....if your are near the water....your gonna see osprey...
Theres nothing like being out in the middle of nowhere, fishing on the
St. Johns River....and an osprey lands in the water right next to your boat...
and flys away with a small bass....its quite impressive!
There are nests everywhere...even on the top of walmart parking lot lights......
We also have quite a few bald eagles....saw one yesterday flying over the house...

They are common here in NW Fla also. They are quite the bird. If you notice in the last segment you'll see that when flying with a fish they always hold it with the head into the wind even though they have to twist their feet around. More aerodynamic that way.
Around here they feed mostly on mullet. They make huge nests. Some folks put wooden wagon wheels on top of poles for them to build their nests on. The nest will take up the entire wheel.

That flounder capture shot was extra amazing to me due to the depth of the fish but especially that the Osprey could even spot this king of camoflauge on the bottom. Amazing eyes. I fished Lake Shasta for a week and was always amazed at the fishing skills of the numerous Bald Eagles which inhabit that lake.

Not so much hunting but rather 'shopping' for the family. The lakes are more 'liquid' fresh fish markets.

Cool! I was thinking "amazing fishing" when I saw it, and seeing that osprey shake all the water off -- just like a dog -- was pretty cool too.
We used to see osprey all the time when I lived near a saltwater river on the Midcoast; now that I'm south and inland, we don't see them much...
...but I have this pix that I took to remind me. Oh, and I swear I thought I saw a "Flying Fish" at the end of that video!
