New TOY!
Viola! It's a levergun!
Picked up a 1977 Legendary Lawman commemorative from a forum member. It's seen some "rough" handling... but only in the sense that it might have been a collectible. It's certainly not in "bad" shape... and no more than you'd expect in any used gun... just no longer collectible. I picked this one up as my son likes my little Trapper made from a '67 Canadian Centennial, as he shares my enjoyment of the .30-30... tho' I suspect he really like my 375 Marlin most of all... something about that suitcase handle on top!
But enough, the seller noted the problems with the condition... and I readily accepted them... it's to be a shooter. I'll post a range report sometime in the future... Easter ain't the time for goin' shootin (IMO, but y'all are welcome to!). A little ding on the left side of the forend where someone had tapped in a dovetail blank. Ooops. A couple of missing "diamond" in the checkering of the wrist, and a easily buffed out mark in the finish on the right stock.
Don't ask me HOW, but the forend was a "mite" long... making it impossible to get the rear band screw back in the gun properly. I can only assume that somewhere the wood swelled slightly... Anyway, a few minutes with the files had that back fitting like it was made for it!
I took off the receiver sight, and temporarily installed a Marbles "Cowboy" barrel sight. It just LOOKS right on there! Anyway, overall view from the left:
Can't even see that little mark now can ya?
(directly behind the medallion, believe or not, just rubbed it out with some Formby's and a paper towel).
New rear sight:
And left and right side shots:
Need to get a couple of the right size screws for the mounting holes... can't believe I didn't have ANY spares!
Hmmm... I wonder if the boy will really like it as much as I do now?

Re: New TOY!
Nothing wrong with shooters/truck guns.....since I'm not careful, they usually end up that way. That's real pretty wood on her....

Pretty rifle.
So you don't want the Browning 92 now?
Then I'll trade it to a hillbilly for a ridding mower!

Oh yea, still want it. Didn't think I'd be at home so soon. And only lasted one day... otherwise I'd have called! Back on the road up to Delaware yesterday. Cowboy Texas Championship being hosted the 1st weekend in May; Gotta be home before then to get ammo loaded. Gotta get down to Tyler to p/u bullets, and will try to get with you at same time!Old Ranger wrote:Pretty rifle.

Re: New TOY!
Hey Griff,
Over the weekend I firelapped the bore a tad. Even had a load or two that shot pretty decent after that operation. Who knows? I might even start to like this thing again...Maybe...But I won't be holding my breath on that one! Now if I can get it to shoot better shucks, I might even hang on to it...Too soon to tell though. The "Evil Gun Monster" might rear his ugly head again and then......I'll be on the warpath!
