Chipmunk season has just started.

Post by meanc »

Last year I picked off 6 or 7 with my Mountie 39a and super colibris. So, between me and the stray cats in the neighborhood, I thought I'd seen the last of them.

Was walking the son to school this morning, and upon return, I see two scampering across the front yard.

So, if I saw two, it pretty much means there's at least 5 waiting in the holes.

Can't stand them, but at least they provide me some recreation.
...and I don't think he even knows it...Walks around with a half-assed grin...If he feels fear, he don't show it. Just rides into hell and back again.

I won't tell PETA, if you don't tell 'em...

I shot one with a Marlin 1894 in .44 Mag once from about 25 feet... :?

That reminds me of the great chipmunk war of '01. I had some Sappers undermining the stone wall out front. I thought I had come to a truce, but discovered they were stealing. Bird seed from the garage. The peace having been broken, I stuck a garden hose into the wall.

I thought I'd seen the last of them. Two days later, while cleaning the pool, I fished two of them out. Nearest I could figure, a suicide squad had tried to swim down to the bottom and chew through. I think their plan was to wash away my mound system in retaliation for me flooding out their burrow. It was only luck that they couldn't hold their breath long enough.

They're cagey little bastards.....

A bb gun works well if you're within 50 feet or so.
But a 44 mag? Was there anything left of em

No - I'd just bought the gun, was sighting on a dirt clod, when the little wire-chewer appeared.

The tail was found about five feet from the impact zone.

Unfortunately, it was right in front of a wheelbarrow, and the bullet also made a large hole in that...

Over the years, I have shot several with a 220 Swift. I never find any pieces.

Any rodent around the house or in the garden up here is
fair game. Gray squirrels are considered a game animal
here in Maine, and have a season in the fall. Most folks
who have trouble with the varmints seem to ignore that little
regulation.

A 22 cal RWS 48 air rifle works well on chipmunks and
squirrels and such. I haven't tried it on a woodchuck yet.

I once hit a red squirrel with a 35 Remington. He didn't
suffer......

That's funny, Griff.

Rodents around here are on notice, any of them, that if I see'em they're dead soon after. Wire chewing and constantly trying to get in the house. Won't stand for it anymore and that includes cottontails.

Chipmunks, like all other rodents, usually do some kind of damage to people's abodes or property.

I wonder what being hit by a .44 Magnum, if you are the size of a chipmunk, translates into for a human-sized target? A howitzer?

You guys are right about 'overkill' with the .44 Magnum; I think a .22 LR is really the proper thing for garden pests.

Really.

Just a .22 LR is all I want.

Maybe a Ruger.

Probably one of them 10/22s would be best.

Or a couple....

I figure one of THESE poking out an upstairs window looking over the garden would be ideal...

I wonder how accurate that Gatling gun kit is.

Just the thing to mount on a motorbike sidecar in traffic.

I bet folks wouldn't crowd ya.

Chucks wouldn't like it, either.
And it ain't really that expensive......

I got one of them today - appx 4oz - so if I figured it right, a 240gr pill is about 1/7 of its weight.

I weigh 175lb - so 1/7 would equal 25 pounds

This is a 25 pounder :o
