Rossi M92 follower follow-up

I posted a query a couple of days ago about finding a steel magazine follower for my .45 M92. Today, as I was doing a bit of cleaning around my gun-tinkering corner, I found an item I had forgotten I had -- a follower from a Marlin 336. Curious, I removed the flimsy yellow plastic follower from my M92 and compared it with the Marlin item. They were all but identical. The upshot -- the Marlin follower works pefectly in my Rossi carbine.

Marlin steel followers are getting harder to find these days, but for others who may be looking I note that Brownells has a stainless steel Marlin follower from DRC. At $20, it's a bit pricey, but it looks like a nice item, and is certainly easier to find than one specifically for the M92.

I'm glad you got your plastic piece replaced.
I have one of those Brownells stainless Marlin followers. I bought it for my Marlin 1894 Cowboy. It works beautifully. When something works as slick as this part did I don't mind spending the money.

What I don't understand is why Marlin is using the cheap junky plastic follower. Considering the cost of new Marlins it just don't make sense.

Cool Pisgah,I have one question.Is the Marlin 336 follower non specific to caliber?I have two .45 cal M92's that need the plastic follower chucked.

The same follower is used in Marlin 1894 and 336 rifles, regardless of caliber. The 1895 has a different one, slightly larger in diameter.

I have a hard time figuring out why they've gone to plastic, too. I guess it saves some money, but it can't be a lot.

Thats not exactly true. Most are the same but theres several. Try getting a 336 follower into a 1894C. I believe in modern guns theres only 3 because I think they only use 3 tube sizes now. The 45 probably uses a regular 336 part but theres a smaller one for 357 & bigger for 45/70. They might use a slightly smaller one in the 1894CL 32 & 25/20's. I know a modern 357 follower wouldn't work in my old 32/20, but the new ones likelt just use a 357 tube & follower.

Believe you may be right. 336 followers for all calibers are listed as "common parts", but the ones for .45-70 and .357 1894s and '95s are different part numbers. I think my experience shows that the 336 follower should work fine for .44 or .45 M92s.

Yup, I was just in Brownells site & it says the 336 one works for 44, 444, & 45 calibres too. I thought so but wasn't sure about the 45's.
Only bad part was Brownells dont list one for a Marlin 357.

I believe the .357 one is smaller. The one for .30-30 works for everything but .357 ( a smaller diameter mag tube) and .45-70 (larger diameter), according to Brownells.

Been there done that. Those are for the winchester 92 not the rossi 92. They are slightly different. The win followers come in two sizes,38/44 and 25/32. I don't remember which one does what when used in the rossi but one works just fine until you get to the last round and it doesn't push it in quite far enough and the bullet nose prevents the carrier from rising. They other does the same thing when the mag is empty. This is because the follower sticks too far into the action and stops the carrier from rising.

If I read this follower thread correctly,I can replace the plastic follower in a Rossi M-92 in 45 LC with a "regular" steel follower for M-336. Regular being say for M-336 in 30-30. By the way is the mag tube in the Rossi threaded into the reciever? The take down guide in the forum article does not mention how it comes out.

Brownells Web site lists the $20.00 stainless steel follower as being dropped.I guess that means they no longer carry the item.Midway carries the DRC stainless follower for $18.99. M-336 common is currently out of stock,backorders are OK.

No sweat. I'v been negligent myself. I'm just lazy. I need/want one for my Rossi but havent gotten around to sending a check .
