At lunch I stopped off at my local gun store to drop off my Ruger Mark I for a little gun smithing. While visiting I asked the innocent question "do you have any lever action .357s in stock". Right then he reached behind him and pulled out a Marlin 1894CS that just came in on trade. I doubt it has a box of shells through it as there is no bluing worn on the slide and it looks like it still has factory grease in the action. It was priced decently so needless to say, I left with a new/used Marlin. I have never owned a Marlin, only Winchesters so far in the lever action family. It sure looks and feels nice.
I had been wanting a lever action to go with my Ruger Vaquero .357, so now I have one. I might end up trying my hand at cowboy action shooting one of these days. I'm only one pistol off from a full complement CAS guns, and we all know how easy that one is to fix.
Any suggestions, ideas, thoughts on the Marlin would be greatly appreciated.
Don

Re: New to Me Marlin 1894 CS
You WILL love it. You'll maybe even like it more than any Winchesters you have...
Mine has become one of my 'go-to' guns, as in one to grab if there is a noise out in the goat barn, chicken coop, or whatever.
There is a thread I posted about the evolution of my 'Night Scout' rifle, and the first one was based on the Marlin 1894 .357 - (link) - Leverguns Night Scout Thread, but suffice to say, I shot this group at 50 yards in total darkness with my 1894 css:

The gun isn't "traditional"...

...but it IS practical - we rely on it and use it regularly.
If you want to go a more 'traditional' route for mostly daytime shooting/hunting, I'd suggest the Williams FP sight, using the aperture to sight in off the bench, then removing it for a 'ghost ring' effect for hunting or ordinary shooting. The Williams FP has a version for side-tapped Marlins, and another that just uses the top scope-mount holes:
I mount mine in the FRONT position, as it is less in the way of the hammer (this is on a .44 Mag).

Here's a thread on the aperture options - (link) - Leverguns Peep Sight Thread
The only other suggestion I know is to read the (link) - Leverguns Marlin Tuning Article and 'slick up' your Marlin - you can achieve the smooth and slick action of a 1,000-round gun with just half an hour of easy work.

It's easiest if you do the photobucket route, because then the size isn't limited; using the 'attach' method listed below the main posting screen you type in works, but there is a size limit so you may have to re-size pictures using Paint or some other utility.
FWIW you can 'swipe' JPEG pics you've already posted elsewhere (or other's pictures, using appropriate discretion) by right-clicking, selecting 'properties', then going to the 'http'-looking part, left-clicking on it, then using Ctrl-A to select it all, Ctrl-C to copy it, then click 'cancel' to close the properties window, then go back to your posting window click on 'IMG' above the window, and you'll see [ img][ /img] (without the spaces), and your cursor will be in between them. Click Ctrl-V to paste the stuff there, and viola, you've put the picture into your post. There ARE some pictures that won't work this way.
I just did it to my own signature picture -
