1886 Winchester Take Down at the range today!

Post by rbertalotto »

I replaced the front white dot sight on my Winchester 1886 TD with a Beach flip sight.

Took the rifle to the range and had at it.

My Custom Marlin 1895 is also a shooter with the exact same load............I love when that happens!

Image

I'm going to put a tang sight and a Beach front sight on it also.

Image

It now wears a customized ladder sight that works well. But no where near as well as a well tuned tang sight.

The Marlin is a much lighter and more handy gun for deer woods. The Winchester will come in handy when there are buffalo on my front lawn...... :D

Clearly, it works for you. How did the Beech front post compare to the one you took off. Clearer sight picture? I've found my front brass bead front sights tend to get blurry on target backgrounds. My eyes aren't what they used to be. I'm thinking about getting a globe w/changeable inserts and trying it in one of my rifles. I have a post and globe for my Shiloh, but I'd like to see what different inserts would do for sighting.

My 60 YO eyes are working fine with the Beach sight. With the post and dot (lollipop) being inside the loop, it shows up great agaist a target. And when you flip it down to a simple post, it makes a great hunting sight.

I'm very impressed and I see why it has survived nearly 150 years!

Some folks dog the TDs as being inaccurate, but we know better. Check out how my vintage 1905 .38-56 did at 50. :)

The Beach sight is available from Buffalo. Midway or Brownells. But you need to search around as some don't call it a Beach (Beech)

Beautiful rifle. Love the beach sight. My experience with takedowns have been very positive. Nice shooting

Mike D. Very nice rifle and results. Hope my 1913 semi delux 30-30 shoots as well. Do u have a tang sight on that one?
