A Bullpup 308 Semiauto
This is 'different', but I came across it when browsing the Kel-Tec site.
It hasn't the grace of a Garand or M-1A, but it isn't as ugly as a Saiga, either...

I've handled one but didn't get to shoot it. They are in short supply compared to demand. Pretty handy.

The muzzle blast should make quite an impression on you (and your ear drums).

Re: A Bullpup 308 Semiauto
The first bullpup design I ever handled was a semi-auto shotgun made by Hi-Standard IIRC. It seemed pretty handy but not something I could warm up to. It just didn't seem as natural as an 870.
Not much seems to have changed.

Re: A Bullpup 308 Semiauto
Seems reasonable compared to the cost of an AR 10 or 25.

Make a nice survival/bear defense arm.
Re: A Bullpup 308 Semiauto
I want one, but can't afford it with a suppressor and don't want it without.

OMG-----------??????????????????????
Look below also-----------------------------
Should go around $699 Retail, look at its weight.
Holy cow(threaded ready to throw on/take off as needed suppressor)
http://www.keltecweapons.com/uploaded_f ... w_2012.pdf
These guys are killing me!
Going down to pick up my final(ya sure)Sub2K TODAY
Order will be placed TODAY for that one above TODAY!(brother wants one too)
Good grief!
Note: when you scroll down that link also shows the 24" barreled RFB HUNTER Model too
Welcome to a whole new world of guns boys!
ps------At 300 meters, 300 BLK has 16.7% more energy than 7.62x39mm. Max effective range, using military standards for hit probability, is 440 meters for a 9 inch barrel, and 460 meters for a 16 inch barrel. 300 BLK from a 9 inch barrel has the same energy at the muzzle as a 14.5 inch barrel M4, and about 5% more energy at 440 meters - even though the barrel is much shorter.(Imagine with the 16" barrel)
For hunting - think of it as like a 30-30 but from an AR. After you are done, you can remove your 5-round magazine and put in a 30 for plinking or home defense.

That's just too ugly to consider. One of those Ruger Scout Bolters would be pretty cool, I'd think. For close in social work, my 870 Tactical with buck would be my choice. With all my others loaded and ready to go, they'd prolly get me before I ran out of shots

Re: A Bullpup 308 Semiauto
I have the Kel-Tec 16B and it is a lightweight rifle. Fun to shoot. Now I would like to get the Kel-Tec RFB but cannot justify it as I already have an M1A and several Garands. Jeff Quinn did a nice article on the RFB on his site, Gun Blast. would be a good rifle for a left handed shooter as well. Ejects it brass forward of the rifle, and controls are amidextorus(sp?). Trouble is they only make maybe 30 or so at one time, they all go out to distributors. Will be a while before most dealers will see them. Don't worry about the noise, it will go away after a few years you won't even hear anyone hollering at you either. ATB
Re: A Bullpup 308 Semiauto
Please explain. They're both .30 cal, the 7.62x39 has more case capacity, and with like weight bullets it is generally listed at 100fps faster than 300BLK.madman4570 wrote:ps------At 300 meters, 300 BLK has 16.7% more energy than 7.62x39mm.
Except that it throws a significantly lighter bullet at lower velocity. Other than that they're just the same!madman4570 wrote:For hunting - think of it as like a 30-30 but from an AR.
Some interesting products from Kel-Tec though!

Just got my last Sub2K today(they can't get any more)at least for now.(still think I am done.(all mine, no 9mms just 40's)all Glock mags.
Got it for $399+tax (gave buddy 5 bills)he had a fit(said wouldn't take it,freaking out(I insisted)said thats what I paid online so too bad.
Chased me out the parking lot as I drove away holding aprox. $65 in hand yelling "its coming off next purchase)
Think of it as handgun rental storage fee!
ya, I am done for awhile besides not sure if that 300 BLK (that guns config)will be legal in NYS???????????? (will see)
Ain't coming out till 3rd quarter of 2012 anyway. So got time to verify.

Nice looking hardware. However, I seem to recollect somewhere that bullpup designs aren't the safest to use because, because, because........ I can't remember why.
Anyhow it looks sweet.

Re: A Bullpup 308 Semiauto
They've had a couple of case head separations and early on they had annealing problems on the gas piston. In all cases it blew the bottom plate off the mags with no damage elsewhere. Tough upper.

Re: A Bullpup 308 Semiauto
I saw pictures of the British Army guys in Iraq and they
were all outfitted with some kind of .556 Bullpup and I
cannot remember who made them. H&K maybe ? ?
The point is we are trying to cut the M4 down to 9 inch
barrels for clearing buildings so the barrel dont hit on
a door way when you bust in... but these bullpups with
full length barrels for greater power and long range accuracy
are overall shorter. Whats not to like ? In fact the soldier
of Fortune article that I read said that the Bullpups with
silencers were no longer than the 9inch barreled M4s.
The only problem is .... money.

I've thought those were seriously cool ever since they were introduced a year or two ago. I love the fact that they are truly ambi. I don't like the gas operation angle, but that's were everyone is these days.
I'd like to see those in a lot more people's hands...

Just buy or build an FAL, no where near as pricey as the Keltec or a M1A. Turns cover into concealment.

Re: A Bullpup 308 Semiauto
I got the chance to fire one of the Kal-Tech bulpups. It uses the FAL mags, and I have a FAL so mags are avalible and thought it may be a good rifle to have around. I will stay with the FAL. All the weight is in the back of the bullpup design. This causes the rifle to have a lot of recoil. Not pleasent to shoot at all. I will stay with my FAL.
Re: A Bullpup 308 Semiauto
I've fired a .308 in an AR platform with a 14.5" barrel made legal with a pinned and welded flash suppressor. So loud, it was just shy of painful to fire for me even with earplugs and muffs. I won't be buying any bullpup designs. YMMV.

Re: A Bullpup 308 Semiauto
I like the concept - especially the Front Eject bit.
But I agree with the .308/shorty concerns.
It should be in a poodle-shooter caliber.
I think it would really shine there.

Get the long barreled target model. That should go a long
ways to lessen the blast. I think it might be 24 or 26 inches.
Big difference compared to 14.5 inches. Better yet,
get a silencer. Yea it is real easy to just say it. Much harder
and expensive to actually do it.
