45-70 Handirifle and peep sight.

Post by TedH »

My wonderful lady bought me a NEF Handirifle 45-70 for my birthday. Had it to the range a couple times, and it's a fantastic shooter with just about everything I have fed it, even with the factory iron sights. Since I usually prefer a peep sight, I was looking at the Williams WGRS sight. I have used them in the past on other rifles, and find I usually need a taller front sight. I expect the same to hold true for the NEF. Was wondering if anyone could verify that, and where a taller front sight might be available from?

I have been out of the NEF game for some time, but have owned quite a few. My gut says your first thought is correct, but the only one I put that sight on was a Buffalo Classic, and it had the hooded front sight.

Go here, http://www.go2gbo.com/forums/index.php/board,126.0.html, to get up to date info. Graybeards is about the top sight online to get NEF info, sources and accessories. If someone over there does not know, it probably isn't known.

Try Skinner sight's, they make front sight's. I've heard they make a good product. I know they have a website.

It's ok "I'm with Old Savage" Ted I have those WGRS sights, the little set screws are a pain. Get the Williams FP White Systems sight for the Buffalo Classic. Much better sight and you can get them with target knobs if so desired.

I don't think I would tell her I was with OS,
you might have to explain more than you had planned to.

She has already been acquainted to OS, more likely to get a pic for him than one for me.

Road trip - did somebody say road trip?

Ted's gal is a good looking honey and he is a lucky guy and she would lend a look of loveliness to the 45-70.

OS, we were out in your neck of the woods back in November. Was in Vegas and took a road trip one day down to California, since she had never been, but she's already talking about going back again.

I'm going to share some pics without her permission, so there may be trouble tonight, but I'll risk it for Old Savage.

Like he said, I'm a very lucky guy, she is an amazing lady.

If you go over to the graybeard's outdoor forum mentioned above there is also a section there now sponsored by Skinner sights. Any question you have about his sights can be answered there.

Ted, I went and looked on the skinner forum. Skinner has a front sight calculator on his website. Try this and see if it helps.

I registered over at Greybeards. It took a little bit to get approved. Lots and lots of info on Handi's over there!
