Bullets for .375 Win

Post by 3leggedturtle »

WOW Talk about sticker shock, thought I would get 100 cast bullets just to try out, until I got my mold. The cheapest I find is $24 per 100. Jacketed are even more. Maybe I'll just buy some round balls and have a short range rabbit load.
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

Just get Ranch Dogs mold and set yourself up for gas checks , then hoard some wheel weights and be done with it,...you'll be so glad you did :D

Yep what Calvin said !

I was fortunate enough to be in on the original testing for both the Ranch Dog molds he made for the 375 WIN .

His first try was a 379-210GC that shot nicely in my rifle and did an excellent job on a 7 point whitetail at about 40 yards .

His second try and the one he eventually sold was the 379-235GC and that one also shot nicely in my rifle although I never used it to kill a deer before I sold the gun .

With this bullet in the 375 WIN no need for special alloys , water quenching or heat treating . Jusr cast from straight wheelweights, air cool , lubesize and then load in your cases and you should be good to go provided your powder charge is an accurate one for that bullet !

Oh by the way 3LT , FWIW IHMSA shoots the rams at 200 meters not 300 yards .

IHMSA = International Handgun Metalic Silhouette Association

200 meters = 220 yards

Thanks gents, I do have a Lee mold on the way, and always have at least 150# of lead/wheelweights on hand,I am just getting itchy to shoot it. This working for a living gets in the way of shooting and reloading at times. As I am sure most y'all are in this club. :) :P

Wish I had that problem !

Come june this year I'll have been unemployed in the normal sense for 4 years !

Now of course I do have other avenues to make a few dollars , but a normal 40 hour a week job has been out of my grasp for almost 4 years now . Hence I have more time to do the shooting stuff and take a trip every so often .
