One of the finest of that great generation of fighting men. Unfortunately, not as well remembered as suggested in the article.
Another largely forgotten Australian is Harry Murray, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_Murray , yet everyone knows about Simpson (and his donkey) of Gallipoli fame http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Simpson_Kirkpatrick
It has been suggested that after the carnage Australians preferred to celebrate a man who saved lives rather than taking them.

I work with the OZ's, in ATV/ FANK/ B-43. I love them most times, RIP Staff Tom Derrick, RIP.
