Sells for $75 in blue.
Bruce, if you check out their Henry sights in a combination of blued steel and brass, it shows up real clear that the aperture is mounted on a sliding block dovetailed into the base. The dovetail lines just don't show up in the above pictured all-blued steel.

I got one of these sights with the Ruger #1H 375 H&H MAG I gave my pop for Xmas this past year !
The sight looked nice enough and well made but I never used it and sold it to a customer back before Xmas .

Target rifles are target rifles and hunting guns are hunting guns . I don't want a peep sight up close to my eye when I shot a stout 45-70 , a 375 H&H MAG or my 416 REM MAG .
I've owned several Winchester and Remington 22 Target rifles that had peep sights and as you say they're rather close to the eye . But they are not practical at all for hunting or atleast not for me .
I have however killed a number of deer in the last 10 years using Lyman tang and peep sights on lever rifles and they were about as far from your eye as that NECG sight is .

The sights you speak of are just that "target sights" and they are a good bit closer to the eye . I've owned a number of them over the years on variouse Winchester or Remington 22 bolt action target rifles . However I do not want a peep as close to my eye as those when I'm firing a rifle in say a stout 45-70 load or either of our Ruger #1's in 375 H&H MAG or the 416 REM MAG .
In the past 10-12 years I've killed a number of deer with lever rifles that had Lyman peep or tang sights and they're about the same distance from your eye as the NECG sight . Now that may or may not work for you , but it does fine for me .

The Williams FP-RSS and FP-RSS-TK side mounted receiver sights are made for the No.1/3 rifles and will bring the aperture somewhat closer to the eye than the NECG and Skinner sights. On the downside it entails drilling and tapping the receiver.

I mounted the hunting model on an early Tropical in 375 H&H. It did work very well. For the life of me I keep thinking it was D&Ted but it was a long time ago. Foolishly I sold the rifle
