New Peep Sight For Ruger #1's & Kitchen Table Gunsmiths

Post by Pete44ru »

It drops right on to any Ruger #1 rifle rib, zeroes using the issue front sight, and the issue rear sight can just be folded out of the way. :P :P

It looks like certified Kitchen Gunsmiths & other fanatics should be able to fit it to other rifles, too.

IDK how many dinero - so pls don't ask me - ask at www.skinnersights.com

A very tidy setup. The info on the Skinner site says it is windage adjustable but from the picture I can't see how that would be managed? http://www.skinnersights.com/ruger_firearms_22.html

Sells for $75 in blue.

Another option is this little gem - it fits right in the Ruger scope-ring grooves...

I use it on my Ruger 77/44 and 77/22 rifles.

Bruce, if you check out their Henry sights in a combination of blued steel and brass, it shows up real clear that the aperture is mounted on a sliding block dovetailed into the base. The dovetail lines just don't show up in the above pictured all-blued steel.

I think the peep hole is too far from your eyeball.
Too dang hard to see the target when that happens.

Need to find somewhere else to mount further back.

I got one of these sights with the Ruger #1H 375 H&H MAG I gave my pop for Xmas this past year !
The sight looked nice enough and well made but I never used it and sold it to a customer back before Xmas .

There isn't anywhere else unless you mounted it in the wood . And I don't think very highly of that .

And actually that sight isn't bad right where he has it or atleast thats the way it was with the NECG sight I used to own .

will see what I mean.

Target rifles are target rifles and hunting guns are hunting guns . I don't want a peep sight up close to my eye when I shot a stout 45-70 , a 375 H&H MAG or my 416 REM MAG .

I've owned several Winchester and Remington 22 Target rifles that had peep sights and as you say they're rather close to the eye . But they are not practical at all for hunting or atleast not for me .

I have however killed a number of deer in the last 10 years using Lyman tang and peep sights on lever rifles and they were about as far from your eye as that NECG sight is .

The sights you speak of are just that "target sights" and they are a good bit closer to the eye . I've owned a number of them over the years on variouse Winchester or Remington 22 bolt action target rifles . However I do not want a peep as close to my eye as those when I'm firing a rifle in say a stout 45-70 load or either of our Ruger #1's in 375 H&H MAG or the 416 REM MAG .

In the past 10-12 years I've killed a number of deer with lever rifles that had Lyman peep or tang sights and they're about the same distance from your eye as the NECG sight . Now that may or may not work for you , but it does fine for me .

The Williams FP-RSS and FP-RSS-TK side mounted receiver sights are made for the No.1/3 rifles and will bring the aperture somewhat closer to the eye than the NECG and Skinner sights. On the downside it entails drilling and tapping the receiver.

I mounted the hunting model on an early Tropical in 375 H&H. It did work very well. For the life of me I keep thinking it was D&Ted but it was a long time ago. Foolishly I sold the rifle

The above sight looks like a dandy as well.
