Talked to Kel-Tec --follow up (how good are Kel-Tecs post)
Interesting news today-------------
Called Kel-Tec (talked to Shawn)in the Technical Rifle(Su16)section of their facility.
I wanted the latest scoop on their guns and expected longevity.) (especially their SU16 line)
He said one of their latest tests was done by firing 3,000 rounds (all in 100rd drum magazines)rapid fire(within 1 hour).
Lucky the tester was a big strong brute cause after about an hours time(puts some strain on the muscles)
Recorded barrel temp reached was (800 degrees F)
The gun functioned/functions/shoots fine still and they are still using it for demonstration purposes and the gun has exceeded well over 10,000 rds (so far)at this point----just shooting A OK.
Needless to say boys,if it will handle that--under that stuff(how long will it last us guys with normal use/care)?????????
So in a nut shell by these findings they are the real deal.
If ya think I am pulling one over on ya------------call him! Shawn (1-321-631-0068)(Rifle section)SU16's at Kel-Tec

Re: Talked to Kel-Tec --follow up (how good are Kel-Tecs post)
madman, did you ask what kind of reliability/longevity they're getting from the sub2000s?
one of those in 9 or 40 would be a very decent house gun for home protection duty. better hits for the average user, the 40 should deliver about like a 10mm from a pistol, and none of the overspray problems of using shotguns, plus good plinker and pest control past .177 ranges.
anyone have any factual data on them? including velocity info? and stress tests like the SU16 went thru?
there aren't many for sale, but a new one in 40 with glock grip starting at $449 at an auction site. much safer in an apartment zone for not unintentionally involving the bystanders. my kids need something and 12 ga isn't great in hi density housing.
still searching. I can't warm up to 5.56 for some reason. If the unthinkable happens and I am pursuaded I HAVE TO do the unthinkable, then there will be plenty available for the asking, so to speak.

Tom,
We got so involved taking about their mission/quality build/etc. and some time on their SU16's that I only touched on the Sub2K's(Glock rifles)as I call them and also a tad as well on their handguns.(Future stuff---nope) this time.
What I took away from them----------------
They right now have excellent people/tooling/processes in place.
They are building them as fast as possible with the correct quality of the gun.
They will not bump up manufacturing that might sacrifice quality just to (put out more guns)
They are staying in the USA(total build)and by doing so(1 plant)having total control of their quality process and complete real time contact/feed back with it's customers)everything is central to one plant(top down)------I LIKE THAT as a customer. I LIKE THEM.
Grizz,
The only thing discussed with the Sub2K was that they have been (extremely reliable and these guns seem to be able to go a long long time.(extremely rare on returns)and many guns having a ton of an amount of rds threw them.
Talked to him about 20 mins.
Will say one thing(I made a tactical sling today out of a piece of a 1/2" wide nylon ribbon leash from my Labs Flex Leash.(200lb rating)
He broke the brake on it. (pulled too hard ) When carrying that SUB2K tactical style the gun butt is at my shoulder and the muzzle end is only to my belt.
Basically the length of my torso(and weighing 4.0lbs I felt like carrying a pair of Nikon 12X50 extremes only narrower.
Hands free/super light/super short/and throwing a 135gr @ around 1700fps
Today I had the mag in it loaded with staggered 180gr rds of FMJ and 180 JHP in case of bear.
Yes, it is about like a Glock 20 10mm(and that is enough)

That would be cool!
All mine use Glock 22/23 mags and at 1700fps(135gr) man that is pretty darn good!
That 9mm would be really cool cause of ammo cost/availability/and it basically tosses em out like a .357mag with the extra 12"'s
Also would like it in a .45ACP
Guys they gotta be good--------------------why??????????????
Cause the thousands sold if they weren't the GunBrokers/GunAmerica's etc. would be flooded with used ones.
good luck getting them for less than the original owner paid ---------------tells it right there.
Re: Talked to Kel-Tec --follow up (how good are Kel-Tecs post)
I am very interested in one of their .22 magnum pistols, that hold 30 rounds in a magazine.
Re: Talked to Kel-Tec --follow up (how good are Kel-Tecs post)
Jeepnik,
gunbroker, but they are pricey
Even though they are twice what I paid new in box; after having one I would still pay the price,
the felt recoil is negligent and it is still .45ACP

Rather than g/b, check the CDNN catalog for what seems to be current best pricing...

Madman, I see the sub 2000's can be had with 3 different companies mags.
Any one better then the rest?

I prefer Glock!
Let me be clear(I love the SU16's)but if I had to choose one long gun for HD (it would be 40 S&W the Sub2K)period.
Once you pick one up then stick it in a 15" little laptop soft case folded(you will see why)
If I had to get it with other MFG Mags or even in 9mm (that's still what I would do)
If you HAVE to have a 16" barreled weapon instead of a handgun(IT IS THE BEST CHOICE)--for me.
The SU16-B or the C are tiny for a rifle and they fold BUT are far way from the SUB2K.
You really need both.
Take for example living in Pa,close on border with NYS(Handguns are not an option no how)what is the BEST alternative???
SUB2K
My first choice----would be having a Federal CCW that would be legal in all states in the USA and having a Glock 20
Example: I would buy this before I can say-------------Gimme!!!!!!(providing legit seller)
