Nice one COSteve. Fun shooters and practical as well. Congratulations on your selection.

I LOVE M1 carbines. We have two, both GI, and both shooters. One is my 14 year old son's which I got him for his 12th birthday and it's his favorite rifle. I can't imagine a better gun for a kid than an M1 carbine and I wish I'd had one when I was a kid!!

Best,
Oly

It looks good Steve. You gonna put a couple of coats of boiled linseed oil on that stock?

My Father was issued one in WWII, he belonged to the Army Corp of Engineers (only the Army would place my Dad in that outfit, especially since my Dad couldn't build or fix anything). My Father loved the M1 Carbine, talked about it all of the time, he said it was fast, quick, handy, and proved itself in combat (he mentioned that they welded two mags together for a quick reload). Unfortunately he never got around to getting one in civilian life, I wish he had... :)

While I understand your desire to get this one and leave your original carbine alone for monetary reasons .

I'll just shoot my two originals and be just fine .

i love those little carbines mine is a folder dated 1943 everything is saginaw div of gm, but the lower trigger housing is rockola. i had a cheap universal the other day and a friend wanted it to use with a 1951 m-38 he was restoring and traded it to me for a nearly new uberti made sharps 45-70. will be the best trade i make all year probably. your auto ordinance looks good steve.

Thanks for the post and update Steve...I've been considering a carbine like yours for the same preservation reasons of my IBM carbine. You've got the lil baby running nice! You mentioned maybe some competitive shooting with it, so I offer, if you don't have it already, "Carbine Shooting With Accuracy" http://www.odcmp.com/Training/CR/CarbineNotes.pdf
Here's an interesting quote from that article:
"On average for easy sorting of carbines, a bayonet lug barrel band out shoots the other kinds with the least fooling around. The rebuilds with a bayonet band are accurate. The 1" wide type 2 band isn't bad, but a bayonet band is better. The type 1 skinny 1/2" wide bands are very problematic. Collectors may like them, but they cause problems with accurate shooting. They take 20 shots just to stop slipping around and find a place to stay put after every cleaning and re-assembly. Pick it up by the sling and it moves again. The tight fit of the bayonet lug barrel band covers up and cures many other problems with carbines. The skinny bands just make the other problems worse."
Myself & purely for looks and better shooting I think I'll try the type 2 band (It's one inch wide but w/o the bay lug) and hope it's a happy medium... Good luck & please keep us posted.
"IT IS MY OPINION, AND I AM CORRECT SO DON'T ARGUE, THE 99 SAVAGE IS THE FINEST RIFLE EVER MADE IN AMERICA."

Steve, I too want a shooter carbine and was wondering if the AA had or has the safety features of the issue rifles that keeps them from firing out of battery. I was looking into a Universal and reading various sites and came across some information that led me to believe some civilian makers possibly turned out an unsafe product.

As far as I can tell, it functions identically to my NPM.
