When you only get one shot. - Leverguns Rule!

Post by Thump »

About 40 yards away. He would bob up and down for about five seconds with just his nose, eyes and ears above the surface. See the stick stuck inbetween his left eye and ear? That is sticking in the hole where a 45/70, Garrett 540 grain Hammerhead went in. - Game over...

Nice 'Hog'.

You workin' fer Garrett?

Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.

History teaches that it's a small window in which people can fight back before it is too dangerous to fight back.

No, but when I shoot something that could hurt my chubby body  , I want dependable ammo that hits with authority. Garrett makes heavy, ammo that really hits like a high speed thrown brick. - :D

Dave, in Mozambique we hunted out of a blind my guide/trackers built next to a junction of two tidal rivers. After the shot, and as the tide came in that evening, we had three very large dugout canoes with nine 'locals' in each big canoe. They tied ropes to my bull hippo (by this time his body gases made him semi-bouyant) and with the incoming tide they brought him upriver to our tent camp. At the camp they dug a mud ramp down to the river. We hooked a cable from our "Range Rover" to the hippo's neck and drug him up beside my tent. I slept beside him - - to keep everything away during the night :o and we made our photos the next morning.

Was the bullet dug out? If so, how much penetration did you get?

Heck, I started readn this on my phone, so didn't see the pic till I scrolled down. Thought it might be a muskrat or beaver shot by a 22 or 30-30 or similar, but NOOOOO, you go and shoot a darn dinosaur.

Very impressive. That Barrett ammo sure seems to get er done!

Early the morning after I took my bull hippo, I awoke to the sound of voices. With only my underwear and my "Co-Pilot" rifle, I came out of my tent to find 30 or more men, and their families looking at my hippo. The men were local people waiting for a share of the meat. Once things settled down and photos were complete, my guide supervised the division of the carcass. I took the skull with the teeth - the locals then consumed "everything" but the toenails which were kept for carving. (Hippo teeth and toenails are very hard.) - - In net: throughout my African safari I demanded a basic rule - "nothing endangered would be taken, and edible meat would not be wasted." - - With my hippo (estimated ~ 6,500+ pounds), nothing went to waste.

...Did you eat any hippo?

I don't think they make Hippo Helper yet, but they do have this...
