Happy Saint Gabriel Possenti's Day

Post by Ysabel Kid »

Today is the feast day of Saint Gabriel Possenti, often referred to as the "Patron Saint of Handgunners". In 1860, as an Italian seminarian, he single-handedly rescued the village of Isola from a gang of renegade soldiers with a display of marksmanship. He had grabbed two pistols from one of the soliders, preventing a rape, and with the other, shot a scurrying lizard with a single shot, then trained both guns on the soldiers. They realized he was no ordinary monk, knowing both how to use the handguns, and how to use them well! He disarmed them all, had them put out the fires they had started, and return the property they had stolen, then marched them out of town.

Now, that is my kind of Priest! :D

And the wag asks: "what kind of firearm would jesus shoot"??....
The most important aspect of this signature line is that you don't realize it doesn't say anything significant until you are just about done reading it & then it is too late to stop reading it....

I am not Catholic, but for someone like Saint Gabriel Possenti, I will be one for today in support of my fellow Christians in honoring a man such as he was. I am not intending to go into any theological discussions, so please don't start one. I am just saying that Saint Gabriel Possenti has earned the respect of us all. If you want a theological discussion, I would be glad to meet you at a bookstore coffee shop and have a great time. In my opinion, this Saint reminds me of Simon Peter in that they were both expert with the weapon of the time, and didn't back down when they were in the right. May his deeds find favor with his creator.

Old Ironsights... (I'm soooo going to hell...)

i will be praying for your soul...you may want to do a good deed, to help you find your way in this lost and darkened world, my suggestion would be that you give your leverguns to the poor...and i firmly believe that the poor can easily be found on this forum...Saint Possenti would be smiling at your kind act of charity... :)

It was a joke made about a joke that bordered on blasphemous, especially if taken out of context and viewed from a locker-room perspective ...

God created humor, and he loves faith above theology.

Think about - how can you impress God with your theology? His way and his thoughts compared to ours, etc.?
You can't even know him with theology - only with faith.

Ysabel Kid,
What a great post-thanks for sharing. Who would have thunk it?

Does that make Eugene Stoner the Patron Saint of the evil black rifles?

Sorry guys - between work, travel, and taxes, I've been out the last two weeks. Y2K and I noted the celebration of Saint Gabriel Possenti last week.

Y2K is getting ready for Confirmation, and as such, like others doing so, was asked to choose a saint he wanted to emulate, and to use his name in the ceremony.

Any guesses who he picked? :D

Needless to say, his religion teacher said it was "a first"!
