Super Blackhawk 3 screw

Post by mran1126 »

I've been looking for a Super Blackhawk 3 screw for a while. I finally found one at the gun show this weekend. There are a couple of small dings but the bluing is very good. Everything is tight and in good working order. From the serial number it looks like 1970 era. $350 out the door. I'm happy.

And well You should be happy, that is a Nice looking 44 and an exceptional price I would say. I'm not in the market for one but don't think I could pass it up at that price. I won't Hound You for a range report as I am the worlds worst in that dept, but I'm there are others that will fill the gap. Niiiice Gun , congatulations.

One of the best. I never had a 3-screw model, but a Super Blackhawk was the first centerfire handgun I got, back when I was a teenager. That was long enough ago that the gun store owner was actually HAPPY to sell a .44 Magnum to a 'kid'.

That's a great find - Ruger only made the SBH in that high-polish blue for a few years, and they're getting harder/harder to find (aka:pricey).

IMO, you saved over $250 on that gun - Is there a saftey slide between hammer nose & firing pin, or an "R" stamped into the cylinder frame under the front of the gripframe, indicating it's been "converted" ?

If it has, the parts to restore it to original are usually available in the Classifieds, over on http://www.rugerforum.com/phpBB/ .

Wow. One look at that beautiful firearm brings me back to my early love of the Ruger Single action magnums, at a time that I could not afford one. They set the stage for affordable, top quality magnum shootin' irons that we still enjoy today. Don't ever get rid of that treasure. Congratulations!

Nice to see it still has the long barrel.
Many were cut back to six inches for ease of carry.
It takes a real Man to pack one in the field all day during a hunt.

BTW, nice score. When they brought them back a few years ago Ruger got over $1000.00 for the retro.

Great find! Congrats!

Those are made of the new steel too IIRC so it's as strong as the new made ones.
