Winchester- Browning 1886 45-70 Rifle
There is one FS over on Gun Broker with a "buy now" of $2200. I have not been keeping track lately but is this a realistic price? It has one bid.

There's half-a-dozen on GA for around $1200-$1300, but every one is an Extra Light w/22" bbl.

I just sold one in very good shape for $1100. There are a lot of glassy-eyed people with stuff for sale. I normally see them in the $1200 to 1400 range. $2200 is way too high, unless John Browning's ghost comes with it.Cruise wrote:There is one FS over on Gun Broker with a "buy now" of $2200. It's probably a high grade that's new in the box right? Or a limited edition take down?
If it's just your run of the mill Browning 1886 it should be around half that.
Best,
Oly

That's what I thought as well. JB's ghost is still in the box and it is just a plain Jane, no takedown, no high grade. I just wanted a perception check to see if I needed to up my Insurance! Thanks for the answers.vancelw wrote:I just sold one in very good shape for $1100. There are a lot of glassy-eyed people with stuff for sale. Re: Winchester- Browning 1886 45-70 Rifle
Agree with the rifle being more expensive if it is a higher grade, especially if it is a Deluxe. My Plain Jane Miroku Winchester 1886 in .45-90 is not fancy (plain wood and no engraving or gold) but it does exactly what I wanted it to do back when I bought it; it is a shooter and can handle very heavy loads. Had it been a fancy rifle, it would not have had near so much fun as it has.
FWIIW, the last unfired Deluxe Miroku made 1895 Winchester in .405 WCF I saw sold on Gun List went for $2800; it had been so listed for many months. When you get the right combination of features in a desireable or rare caliber, a patient seller can often get a premium price.
My unfired Deluxe 1895 .405 is not for sale, but it would take more than that to pry it away from me or my descendants that have already laid claim to it.

Re: Winchester- Browning 1886 45-70 Rifle
I paid 1200.00 for my Browning 1886 "Rifle" Grade 1 last year like new from Cabelas Gun Library
and Cabelas is usually on the high side with there prices.
Right now Cabelas has a Browning 1886 High Grade SRC for 1599.00 excellent cond.and a Winchester 1886 LW for 1199.00
So the price your looking at on GB is way high.... IMO

I have a browning src 1886 that i bought a few years back for about $750. These rifles are works of art. every bit as good if not better, because of modern steel, than the originals. Guess u could watch Gun Broker and monitor the prices for awhile. If your heart is set on an 86 and u don't want to shell out for an orginal. The pre safety ones with the half cock hammer are the ones u want.
