It has begun.

Post by Paladin »

A kid (25 years old) a local Para-Medic I have been working with for the last few months was sworn into the US Army today. He enlisted under the 18X program and wants to be a Special Forces Medic. I was given advance warning by his recruiter and got his wife, sister, Mom, and my partner a (retired CSM from SOCOM) in in time to watch the swearing in. He has a very long road ahead of him but from what I have seen he will make a GREAT 18D.

Good for him.

I just hope he remembers that the First Clause of that Oath (Defend the Constitution) takes precedence over every subsequent clause - especially the "obey the President" part.

Awesome...what an adventure he is about to embark upon. God Bless and keep those young men. Where is basic for SF Medics...Jackson? I know he'll go through Airborne at Benning and then on to Bragg.

Very good to see young men step up to do something great for our Country.
Maybe there is still hope for our Nation. I wish him the best.

We had that conversation right after he was sworn in with the explanation of what a lawful order was in front of the oath.
He ships and starts his training in July (So all the 20 months of schools line up) I think he starts at Ft Benning for basic, AIT, Jump School, then to Ft Bragg.

Can anyone tell me if this has always been the oath taken, or was it changed within the last 10 years?

It looks like the same oath [as I remember it], that I first took in 1983. I still feel bound by it.
