front sight issue

Post by Kyle B. »

I recently bought a Colt Lightning src. It's in great shape and shoots very well. Even though it has the original carbine flip up rear sight someone felt the need to file down the front sight...... a lot. Aiming with the front blade as low in the rear sight as possible the rifle is 18 inches high at 50 yards. The front sight is one piece and factory welded to the barrel. Are there any fixes that would not damage the original condition of the gun? Thanks for any help.

I believe a small amount of metal could be welded to the top of the existing sight, and than filed to shape. I have seen a gunsmith do such a proceedure to another rifle front sight.

You can take some masking or electrical tape and build a front sight, this is to get the height right. Then measure how tall your sight needs to be, then take a sight like this http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=3160 ... IGHT-FRONT , and cut and file till it meets your requirements and silver solder it on your sight.
