panning for gold
For a vacation this year in july. the wifey wants to go to arkansas or someplace similar to pan for gold. Anybody have any suggestions for a place or any experience with this. She wants to keep what she finds. I don't know what the federal regulations are for this subject. Thought we would drive to spartanburg, sc. to spend night with relatives and then drive to our " money" hole, and then vice versa on the way back.

We went through there last year in the car on the way to TX. in Sept in the middle of the month. It was so dern hot we couldn`t do anything so plan accordingly

Re: panning for gold
I have lived in Arkansaw for 35 years now and I don't recollect anyone panning gold here. Down around Hot Springs there is a state park where you can dig for diamonds. Look up state parks and tourism, should give you plenty of information.

We went to that place you mentioned in hopes of getting rich but it was in the 90`s so we had to pass.

Re: panning for gold
Lot of mineral collecting in Arkansas but I don't remember any gold of quantity to pan.
If you are interested in collecting quartz crystals or various phosphates Arkansas is the place.

Re: panning for gold
http://www.mtcreekgold.com/camping.htm found a place in n.c. that rents out cabins and tent sites. looks like this is one of the better mining camps up and down the east coast. we want to go there during the fourth of july week, then head to spartanburg to visit the aunts and uncles.

Re: panning for gold
Actually the reason I am on the forum now is because I am back at my place in Phoenix.
I am here because the permits to mine commercially have finally come through.
I have never heard of one NOT being able to keep the gold they found, unless it was obtained illeagally.

It is good to see our old friend Mescalero is alive and kicking.

Still roaming, still behaving itself.
I left my Pentax with telephoto lens with the boys at the ranch.
They claim they have an albino, South American eagle??????????
Never heard of that one.
Lets see if they get a picture.

Most streams coming off the Cascades will show color. There are seasons that allow a dredge of a certain size, and those people actually seem to scratch out a living.....the Natchez seems to be popular.

Nice to see you posting my friend. You have been in my thoughts and I have made smoke for you often. Blessings

Perhaps the smoke helped with permits, turning 59 1/2 ( I can take money from my IRA's without penalty )
