Took my daughter to the range on Saturday (photo)
This past Saturday, I took my oldest daughter to the range. We started with my 132 year-old Colt SAA offhand at 25 yards. To my shock, she put 3 out of her first 5 rounds on the 8 1/2 x 11 paper shooting offhand. She's never shot that pistol before. Here she is, shooting my 122 year-old Winchester 1873 chambered in 38 WCF (aka 38-40). We had a good time.

Kirk: An old geezer who loves the smell of freshly turned earth, old cedar rail fences, wood smoke, a crackling fireplace on a snowy evening, pristine wilderness lakes, the scent of
cedars and a magnificent Whitetail buck framed in the semi-buckhorn sights of a 120-year old Winchester.

Nice Kirk! Good picture, glad she went and had a good time.

It is hard to beat sharing time at the range with your daughter. I am blessed to be able to do it on a regular basis

don't be too shocked. The sight picture is all about relationship - girls are great at that.
And usually don't have anything to prove which makes them more relaxed about the whole thing.
I have found in fly casting that girls pick it up without a lot of hoopla, and the trick with guys is getting them over the hoopla, because everything has to be done with aplomb and right now, and that usually just means knots.
thanks for sharing your great times.

As Always Great Kirk.God Bless.
Re: Took my daughter to the range on Saturday (photo)
My 2nd to last range trip, 2 young boys were there shooting deer rifles. Around 9 or 10, their mom watching. I was zeroing my 7mm Mauser, a 1894 Brazilian or possibly Chilean Mauser sporterized before even I was born.
I hadn't zeroed it yet so they didn't shoot it (I didn't have much ammo on hand) but I let them both handle it, and the fact they were holding a rifle probably first issued for service when their grandparents had not been born, or at least were very small, kind of blew their minds.
Smart kids, and respectful, and one of them had a rifle collection that nearly equaled mine at age 20....when he was 10. And I let him know that.
Nice old rifle... don't shoot me, but is she single?

Heh, heh! She is, but she's only 17. Half the guys in her high school are in love with her. She's an excellent figure skater, she's smart, beautiful, and doesn't date. She's waiting for Mr. Right to show up and when he does, she's going to tell him he needs to have a meeting with me before he can court her. She's already been accepted into the best university nursing program in Canada for next fall. Well, I guess I'd better quit bragging on my daughter. I have two of them and I'm proud of them both. They are both shooters. Here's a photo of both of them taken just over a year ago (the one on the left is the one shooting the '73 in the first photo of this thread) ...MrMurphy wrote: ... don't shoot me, but is she single?

Great kids!
ya Kirk I thought the same thing
You know what is funny? It happens quick. You will turn soft because your girls know what to look for in a man.
Wait till they are watching a movie at around 10pm lying on the couch snuggling
Bet you smile and quietly tip toe in the other room and read a gun book.
What I have found is if you raised em right you will not need to worry and you will love the ones they pick.
I thought (ya wait till they show up/they will see)
Two weeks later I am siding with the boy friend saying (you gonna take that from her)
It's all good Kirk--------------enjoy friend!

Re: Took my daughter to the range on Saturday (photo)
Good for you getting her to the range and making it enjoyable for her. My daughter shot some with me when she was little then decided it wasn't so cool and there was a period of time that she had no interest. Then, when she was back visiting from school (TX A&M), I decided that she needed my Ruger SP101 (she was living in an apartment) and gave it to her along with a little wall mount lock box and "kit". She immediately wanted to go to the range and shoot it and did very well and enjoyed the trip. Here's a vid of that http://www.youtube.com/watchv=e94637AtU ... ideo_title

I took my youngest daughter to the range last July.

Well Kirk, reckon who might be wearing the Colt on next summers wilderness canoe trip? At least you'll have 'ol Savage Sam with you, maybe.

Yeah, that's just a bit young for me..... but they appear to have turned out well.
I know what you mean sort of in a sideways manner, my brother and I had two female cousins a year or two from us in age, of all my (many) cousins us four were all very close in age and got stuck together at family events etc.
It seems like yesterday I remember my 2-years younger cousin graduating high school and now she's 31 with a doctorate and boyfriend and a business.
I scratch my head and go "when the heck did all that happen?"
