I decided to get a lighter #2 weight barrel chambered in 22 short since the #4 22LR was too dang heavy to shoot offhand....almost 14 pounds scoped. I'll be using the 22Short for indoor gallery use. Unfortunately I probably won't be able to shoot it for several months. I fell back in October and haven't been able to hold a rifle since then. I have no bicep strength, in my left arm, and too much shoulder pain. Monday I find out if surgery is needed to repair the Sub Scapular tendon.

saw this last night and didn't post - that is an extraordinary rifle. really beautiful.
Not comparing rifles, but with my .22 Uberti '85 and Creedmoor sights (w/ Hadley cup that dials down to 0.022), I've been able to consistently dial in bullseyes at 75 yds. Last time out, my daughter took a turn at 50yds and she flat shot the center diamond out of the target.
My buddy just picked up a 44 in .32-20. I'm anxious to see it next week.

+1 I've had five shoulder surgeries over the years and I'm doing pretty good now. Have good range of motion, but for a couple areas. I can live with that. Just vet your surgeon. I had a nationally renounced surgeon do one of my surgeries and he didn't fix a thing. Had to have another one do the job and he did it right.
I found a good year is needed post surgery to get a good read on whether your surgery was a true success or not. You can tell fairly soon if your range of motion or pain has improved, but it takes a long time for things to get back to quasi-normal after extensive surgery.

Is it the action original or a "clone" from CPA-Suttleworth? I have a CPA Stevens .22LR with the Pope/Schuetzen style butt and stock (Model 52 design??) and a Lyman Super Target. You are right, it is a handful when shot off hand, even with the palm rest.
Shoots very well even with Federal and other high speed HP bulk .22 ammuntiion. Should try some "best quality" ammuniton.
The most important aspect of this signature line is that you don't realize it doesn't say anything significant until you are just about done reading it & then it is too late to stop reading it....

Yes, it's a Shuttleworth Stevens. I purchased this Stevens #49, from Paul and Gail, last year. I also did the final fit & finish, on the wood. This is considered "standard" grade wood.

jdad: is Paul still active in the rifle building process??
I purchased mine in the mid-1990's. From Gail told me at that time, she was starting to take over the shop and business as Paul was "getting to be at that age".

Great lookin' rifle. Before and after. I'm sure the lighter barrel will make it easier to shoot. Bad news about the shoulder... I had a elbow injury a couple of years ago, didn't healed right, if at all... and now my shoulder hurts, probably from trying to compensate for the elbow. Slowly getting over it... as my father-in-law used to say, "...pain is good for you, it tells you to stop what you're doing!" Prayers up!

Paul still answers the phone sometimes and he seems to still be doing a lot of the work. I have come to the conclusion that when Gail says 4-6 weeks she mean twice that.

My "60 days to completion rifle" was done in only 14 months....

That lever threw me off. I have seen a couple but I think they had leather in the lever. Played tricks on my memory. That rifle is absolutely beautiful.
