Those are even harder to hang onto with full-powered loads.
You're obviously a bit younger'n me, I recall the similar gun Johnny Yuma carried. :)

Or somewhat more recently, the "20-gauge cut-down" that Cuba Gooding Jr packed in Lightning Jack...

My 20" TTN 12-ga., with full butt-stock, &c, is bad enough, with 3" 000Buck or 600-gr Brenneke slugs. And it is no light-weight, believe me... I did pare a lot of wood off that stock, and cut it off and added a Pachmayr 1" pad. It's a lot of fun to shoot with wimpy "target" loads..

And "back-pack hunting.....?" Seriously..? Those are the OCD boys who cut the handles off their spoons and toothbrushes to save fractions of an Ounce.. i can see them chopping off a ML just at the rear of the lever, and paring down the stock as far as they dared go; removing the fore-end and the magazine, and carrying only One cartridge, á la Barney Fife, in the cargo pocket of their rip-stop, cotton/nylon Safari shirt. The gun would have to be .45 caliber, to minimize the amount of steel in the barrel, and the bullet could weigh no more than 162.7 grains and would be shoved along by a tiny pinch of Titegroup or W-231...
Buck,
Aye, GAWD... the above was funny! But, really, it's ok, we know ya want one, just for the McCool factor, we don't need more convincin'! Just don't be surprised when MOST of us don't rush out to buy one wid ya! :P

1894cfan, Buck, Denis,

Do you remember Jerry Reed in "Gator"? He had sawed-off 12 gauge double that he would press down on to control muzzle flip:

I don't have a really short shotgun, but I have this NEF Pardner:

It is not hard to handle with loads like #6 shot, but it is too much with 3" Magnums & any kind of slug.

Nope.. I really have no desire or use for one.. The only way I'll ever have one is if somebody in the family gives me one, and I'd feel guilty trading it off... None of which is likely to happen...

I never saw Gator. :)
I have considered doing the Class III thing with an old 1960s Stevens/Fox 12 gauge I have here, it'd be kinda coolish to have as a handgun. But, the idea of actually shooting it so far has caused me to come to my senses. It's not just the muzzle rise, it's the backwards wrist-breakin' recoil that scares my aging bones.

I'll probably still do a barrel bob, but I'm thinking I'll leave the full stock on it. :)
