My self-inflicted sock criteria:

Call the Army Navy store in Anchorage, AK. As I recall there are two: one on Northern Lights Blvd and the main store on 5th Ave. It's a great source for outdoor cloths. Also ask them for red suspenders. You asked where I got mine. It was there. If they don't have those socks you're looking for, drop me a PM and I'll send you a pair. Victor PS... Here's the AN Store the link in Anchorage: http://classicalaska.com/servlet/content/army_navy.html I don't see those socks on their website. . I would have been surprised if I had. They sell them out of large cardboard boxes. Also, my suspenders are not the Carharts shown on their site. Call them and ask. Let us know what you learn.

If your not in a hurry and my Mom feels like it (she is only 91) maybe she could make you a pair. The trick is to find the right wool and know what length and size you need.

Thanks for the great responces, you guys are seriously awsome
I think I found what I'm looking for. Going to make a phone call and
check into these. Anyone know anything about Alpaca wool? (Pitchy?)
These socks look like they'd be great for early season trout fishing
with my hip-boots as well

An erstwhile GF knitted me a scarf of alpaca....it's wonderful, soft, non-itchy and I use it for riding the Harley in cooler weather. It's more fluffy than the merano(sp?) wool.

the under hair of the alpaca is incredibly thin, fine stuff. averages 30 microns in width.....to put that in perspective a red blood cell is approx 8 microns! so the stuff is very smooth non itchy and VERY warm. i think i could use some of those myself.
