Were Win. 92s ever factory D&T for a receiver sight?

Post by Win9410 »

I just put a Miroku 1892 32-20 takedown on layaway. My plan is to use the gun for cowboy silhouette. I prefer Redfield receiver sights for this game and am planning to put one on this gun. My question is this: Did Winchester ever factory drill and tap the 1892 for a receiver sight, and if so, what's the location and hole spacing? Thank you.

I am no expert on the Model 1892, but am also not aware of any being drilled and tapped by Winchester.

Mike, without doubt I'd call you an expert on '86's. '92's, well, you're probably really close.

Well they didn't d&t them as a matter of course but my understanding of the way Winchester worked back in those good old days was if a customer really wanted something they could order it and get it. Which would most likely include a receiver sight.

And if they did d&t a model 92 I'm sure they'd use the same arrangement as on the model 65. So pull up a picture of a model 65, which they did d&t as a matter of course, and you'll have the info you want. The holes are set back there so you would just clear the locking lugs with the sight set at the lowest point and about as far back as could be and not interfere with the thumb cocking the hammer...
