Gas Checks in Old Leverguns Question

Post by CBinNH »

Are gas checked bullets OK in old blackpowder steel leverguns such as my 1894 32-40? I was thinking so because of so little bearing surface with the bore. Thanks.

I was warned against it as a steady diet that is.

I've been doing it for 35+ years with no ill effects. This includes many thousands of rounds out of BP 1886's, 1873's, 92's, etc. If I can't get great accuracy with plain base bullets on guns with worn, pitted bores or funky crowns, (almost never) gas checks usually solves the problem. Read Mike Venturino's book on "Leverguns". ----------------Sixgun
