I'm looking at a nice bonus check this year and want to take Blondie somewhere new. I've taken her to Paris and Amsterdam a couple times. I really Enjoyed London when I was there was thinking it's time to return.
I'd like to spend a couple days in London and head south to Portsmouth Harbour to catch a ferry
across the Channel to Normandy.
Looks like it will be about $300-400 to take the train and then a ferry across.
Would it be cheaper/ easier to fly? Any idea of the name(s) of airports in Norther France. I'm not coming up with anything searching the net.
Thanks,
jb

What's it like in April/ May? Or should we wait for June/July?

It will rain whenever you come.. June and July are warmer and dryer, April, May not so many tourists and the countryside is (I think) prettier in the Spring.
Winchester is a popular place to visit, lots of history and if you need a guide I know the pubs!
Whatever you do always give 100%........... unless you are donating blood.
There is a D Day museum in Portsmouth as well has the Historic Ships, HMS Victory etc.
Winchester City, Southampton airport and the New Forest are less than an hours drive away.

Normandy airports are at Cherbourg, Caen, Deauville, Le Havre and Rouen. My sister lives in Normandy and says that flights from London are not common. There is an airline called Cityjet that flies from London City Airport to Deauville. They have a web site. You might consider taking the Eurostar train to Paris and then a train to Normandy. The Portsmouth - Le Havre ferry is not a pleasant ride if the weather is rough!
June 4th is the Queen's diamond jubilee and schools will be on vacation the previous week. Hotels will be impossible to book so best avoid that time or stay outside of town and get a train in. We also have a sporting event starting July 27th called the Olympics so hotel prices will ramp up exponentially towards that date. My advice would be to aim for mid-May.
I know absolutely nothing about London or anything else in the UK but I do know that AFTER the Olympic games in Atlanta years ago the hotel rooms were dirt cheap as there was an overabundance of them.
