Ruger has sure gone to the dark side since Bill Ruger died. They make less and less guns that interest me and more and more that repulse me every year.
Oh well.

Well they named it right LCR (Latest Crappy Revolver). I'm sure Bill is spinning in his grave.

It is even stranger than those 'upside-down' Rhino revolvers!J Miller wrote:Ruger has sure gone to the dark side since Bill Ruger died. They make less and less guns that interest me and more and more that repulse me every year.
Still, at least they are daring to 'innovate' and experiment with new things - that's the way new stuff comes about.
Funny though how the COOLEST 'new' Ruger offerings are their 1911 clones and their AR-15 clones, and thirty years ago, their shrunken-M1A clone, and fifty years ago, their Colt SA clone...all hot sellers, yet all just Ruger-ized classics.

Weird looking as they may be, I have been wanting one of the .357 versions since I handled one a while back. It will be my next CCW purchase.

Re: Is it possible to design a more ugly revolver!!!!
Ugly for sure.
Stil,Ruger makes a fine line of guns. Some have to be handled to grow on you,
I never thought I would like their LCP or the LC9 but have purchased both and after some handling and shooting, I like them both.
I love my Security Six but it`s just too large for concealed carry IMHO.
I also have and just love my little SP101 3" .357. SWEET !!

I would have an LCR in 38 if they weren't so light, I ran my arm through a wringer when I was 3 or 4 and messed up my elbow, and the kick from it was just to snappy for me, hurt my elbow every time, so I stick with the "gentle" push of the good o'l 45 ACP

Re: Is it possible to design a more ugly revolver!!!!
Actually this makes a lot of sense for a practice firearm if you have a LCR in .38 or .357. Also as Jeff Quinn says it works for someone who for physical reasons cannot handle recoil. A .22lr is not ideal for self defense but it is better than nothing if that is what you can handle. And 8 shots of .22lr will incapacite someone. As for all you guys that say it is ugly, have you ever fired one? Glocks are not pretty either but are a fine firearm. I am not crazy about the looks either, but it is a tool to save your life not a piece of art, and the LCR's shoot fine with a nice trigger pull. I have some beautiful firearms and am proud of them, love blue steel and wood but polymer firearms have been proven for years now. I have two, a Springfield XDM and a Ruger LCR that my wife has taken over, and trust both. God Bless.

Re: Is it possible to design a more ugly revolver!!!!
If I had a LCR in .38 or .357 I can see where the .22 would be a great value as a practice piece. For someone that can only handle a .22 then they can have piece of mind as well.

Re: Is it possible to design a more ugly revolver!!!!
The ugliest revolver in my opinion in the Rhino.
I've read good things about them as far as design and almost no recoil, but I'd rather have the recoil of a 2" S&W 500 than carry that thing. I would have posted a pic but am not good at that. Maybe someone can put one up and you can see for yourselves.

I had the LCR in .38spl when they first came out. I found it to be a very nice gun and easy to shoot. Shot good also. I ended up trading it just because of me wanting some other things but overall I was pleased with the gun.

Agreed, they ain't 'purty, when the LCR first came out I thought man thats ugly. It did grow on me though, no its still ugly, but it serves its purpose well.
Re: Is it possible to design a more ugly revolver!!!!
Nope. The Rhino and the Metaba easily take the crown.
However, the Webley-Fosbery reaches for it and I would not argue with anyone who says that it takes it:

That 22LCR looks like the little ring cap pistols I used to buy the boys, when they were little.
People were smarter before the Internet, or imbeciles were harder to notice.
Re: Is it possible to design a more ugly revolver!!!!
Ruger LCR's aren't ugly--they're practical--carried an LCR 357 as a "BUG" while on duty for over a year--but recently traded it away and went back to my Glock 27 or S&W 638 & 640. Didn't like the grips of the LCR, to large and wide, looked at the compact grips but the design was too slippery to be practical. The original grips also printed too much in my front pocket (that's where I carry my BUG), had a Sergeant point that out one night--God bless Seargants...and that's all I have to say about that... :)
-------I should mention that I liked the mix of steel and plastic of the LCR,
which tracks because I am a devoted end-user of the Glock.

at least you have to take the grips off to find the lawyer lock.
I love me some Smith and Wessons... but the new Unobtanium lock versions are not my cup of tea.
Finally broke down a went Glock 19 for EDC ....$425 (used) goes bang evertime and I can keep all the shots between the nipples at 7 yards (I've shot this gun exclusivly in my IDPA and defensive handgun matches the last few months)
Ugly works... and if this thing gets boosted or broke... it can be replaced.

Is it necessary? No!
And the Dardick wins the Ugly Prize, going away...!
There was a time when such tools for saving lives Were works of art, back when designers were truly designers; free from the self-imposed restraints of quick&dirty CAD-CAM production techniques.. Re: Is it possible to design a more ugly revolver!!!!
IMHO if they sell it for the same price as the .38 Special, they'll sell a ton of them. There's a real need for an inexpensive and reliable .22 revolver.
I used to have a ten shot S&W but sold it in a fit of ignorance. When I tried to buy another, I suffered massive sticker shock; too expensive for my blood. I bought a nine shot Taurus in stainless steel, just to have something that wouldn't empty my savings account.
If it's reasonably priced, I'd get one of the 22LCR's. The 38's have very smooth triggers.

Re: Is it possible to design a more ugly revolver!!!!
That Ruger ain't any uglier than the 100 or more CC pistols and revolvers that have been developed over the last few decades by all the manufactures. It's also no worse than any Glock. I've pretty much sworn off utilitarian looking guns but if I was in need of a CC I'd look hard at the LCR and LCP series'. Ruger has been one of the most consistent and innovative gun makers in the last 50 plus years and makes a dang fine gun. Are all of em pretty? No, but most of em are and if I had to pick one gun manufacturer for all my needs and wants Ruger would be it. Well before Colt, before Winchester, before Taurus, before S&W, before Marlin, etc etc.
