Whats a good place to buy some .44 mag ammo? I was thinking like a getting a case or something. I have a feeling once I get a new toy a couple boxes won't last long.

There a place that reloads commercially where I can send them my brass to be reloaded?

Buy a reloading kit. I dont think I'd shoot much beyond 22s if I had to buy ammo these days.

Even the mid-range quality, 22 "match" ammo, is getting pricey.

I agree with the reload comments.

It's far simpler than many seem to think. I started with a simple Lee Loader (about $25 now for a complete kit) when I was about 13, and went up from there. It doesn't take a fortune in gear to get started, or a Phd in physics or chemical engineering to do it right. Buy a couple reloading manuals (I like the Lyman first), or check them out from your library to start, and READ them cover to cover, not just look up a load for your gun. Besides being interesting, they will teach you most of what you need to know to make good ammo.

I was looking over gunblast.com not long ago and found an outfit called luckygunner.com. I was looking for some Hornady Critical Defense in .22 Mag. and they were the only ones that had it.

I don't really shoot enough to really justify the need to start reloading. Not to mention with wanting to have a kid in the next year I would rather not have those materials in the house.

If you're buying a case at a time and having the brass reloaded for you, you have justified reloading. If you don't want you kid around powder, primers, etc, why let them be around ammo, knives, hammers, electricity, etc.? To me, there is a bit of cognitive dissonance at work there. Now that's not a criticism, just an observation. Your kid, your decision.

Check with Wal-Mart. I picked up some 9mm Saturday at the local one and they had lots of Winchester .44mag. on hand. I thought at the time it was a good price but I don`t remember how much it was.

They don`t show prices for ammo on line.

A case of ammo should last me about a year or two give or take depending on how trigger happy I get when I first get the gun. Everyone likes to shoot a little more then normal when they first get a new gun right. Also depends on how many are in a case 200/500.

yea I checked walmart online and it showed my local area out of stock for 44 mag. I couldn't believe it, but meh I'll have to check that in person in the coming weeks.

As for kids ewww, I still have to find a place to store my knife collection and other things... thanks or reminding me. Sure I can't just raise them in a cage untill they are 14?

I always thought a case referred to 1000 rounds, -- anything less was a "partial case"

I also think your kid would be safer with the components than loaded ammo. Just work out a system or place for storing what you have. You don't have to keep a lifetime supply. I like to load just what I'll need for the next session. Sure the powder's flammable but so is acetone, alcohol, gas stoves, paint thinner. Get a lockable metal box with a vent and train him well.

Some of the web sites, have 300 rounds of 240-gr. SWC and one dry-storage box. Havn't really come across 1000 rounds for sale.. but if I had or needed to get that much I would get into reloading in the near future.

Was hoping ammoman had something since their prices look reasonable but they are out of stock of the 44 mag.

Just looked, Cheaperthandirt has a bulk pack box of 250, 240 gr. cast, moderate velocity. Probably perfect for plinking/targets. $130 and said in stock. The brand was Bitterroot Valley.

Reloading with kids around just takes some creativity. I put up my rock chucker set and went with a Lee hand press. That way I can keep everything I need in one box. When I want to reload I can set up anywhere and put together some rounds quickly.
