Saturn Boone Scope on a 99

Post by Rimfire McNutjob »

I'm going to have to file this one under "I had no idea they made something like this". There's one up for auction on eBay. For the person who has to have everything for their 99.

Weird! I think Leupold made something like that early on too didn't they?

It looks like it would take quite a knocking sticking up like that...

Keep in mind that the Boone scope came along during the infancy of mounting commercial riflescopes for the everyday sportsman, in the very late 1940's/early 1950's - the design was made to fit the Savage 99's factory prep for the tang/receiver peep sight, long before scope mount prep became factory standard.

It was basically half of a Porro prism binocular with a reticle.

Learned something new this morning...!!! At first glance, I was wondering if that thing was mounted as a "magnifier" to enhance use of the iron sights by guys like me with "aging eyes" .
Thanks for sharing.

Trying to kick-start the old memory this morning but didn't Boone have a mount for the '71 Winchester. I believe the scope was mounted atop the bolt? I've never seen one but do remember the advertisements.
