Handgun hunting 2011... Whitetail buck and 45 Colt content

Post by awpk03s »

It's whitetail season here in Ohio, and I shot this beauty last night at my dad's farm. Used a stainless Ruger Bisley Blackhawk in 45 Colt, loaded with 300gr XTP hollowpoints at 1325fps. I no more than walked out of the garage to start out and this guy was standing in the driveway behind my truck... it wasn't a safe shot as it was facing the road, but I stood still while he trotted down into the woods and over a hill. I ran to the edge of the tree line and lined up on him, waiting for him to slow up. He did between a couple of trees, and I held a little high and let a shot off. Missed. He still just stood there, not knowing what happened... I cocked back and banged off another one - and he dropped like a sack of potatoes. Paced it off at 80 yards.

First buck I've ever taken, pretty pumped. And fun to do it with a wheelgun!

Nice going and great shooting. Sometime deer show up in the strangest places.

I don't know . . . sounds more like a suicide to me. . .

Those Ruger Bisleys in .45 Colt seem like just about the most practical and fun six-guns out there.

Good shot! I've been hauling my Bisley 45 colt around for 5 years during deer season without even an opportunity to pull the trigger.

I 2nd that reply. My Blackhawk surely hasn't had that distinction so far in this life.

Very well done! You've got your 45 well stoked as well. 300 grains at over 1,300 fps is a force to be reckoned with.

There has been a lot of new ponies come and go in the corral, but there's nothin' "little" about the .45 Colt.. For 138 years, it has been the one to beat.. Some have come close, but for all-round versatility, it's the ONE, in the right gun.....

Congradulations, you won't forget that shot, not in this lifetime. First buck and with a handgun to boot! I envy you, as a first buck, or a kill like that with a fine handgun, Well, it's just hard to duplicate the feeling you must have had, at that moment when the gun recoiled in your hand and you seen him drop.
