Another Manlicher
I was looking over something today and ran across this Sako. I was wondering if anyone has seen one at a local shop?

Re: Another Manlicher
I have a Mannlicher-stocked SAKO in .308 that was made about 1980 (pre-75). I have taken several deer with it and have lusted after fullstocked rifles ever since. If you can do it, you need to buy it. They are seriously cool and very accurate.
If you are looking at it and the barrel seems to have a bulge in it, don't despair. SAKO machines the barrel thicker in the spot where it flexes at firing, therby canceling out the whip from the bullet. My 1st one was sold to me as new, but I saw the bulge and got mad until the dealer (a private SAKO seller) told me what it is there for. A call to the factory confirmed it. You will love the Old World craftmanship in the rifle.

Re: Another Manlicher
I have a SAKO Bavarian carbine in 308cal and it is a beautiful piece of machinery. It carries and points like dream. It Harkens back to the old school mannlicher rifles made in the early 1900s.Workmanship is great with a good wood to metal fit and nicely figured wood.It also shoots like a hot dam.Actually I just got my first deer with on Saturday. The only down side is it is kind of pricy.
Re: Another Manlicher
Thanks Barbarossa, yours is the one I was looking at.
I think I'm going to have to see one in person. That is just plain beautiful.

Re: Another Manlicher
that is one amazing looking rifle--if i owned that i would never hunt with it, to afraid to put a scratch or ding into it--my best friend's uncle has a sako that is similar--you need to buy that gun.
Re: Another Manlicher
I dont know if they are the exact same model
but my buddy in north florida has 2 or 3 Sako Manlichers...
and they are very accurate....and cool looking...
This guy is a great shot...there was a lizard sitting
on top of the 100 yard target.....but not for very long...

Re: Another Manlicher
I owned a mannlicher stocked Sako a number of years ago, but it never pleased me in the accuracy department. It just never showed the potential of my other Sakos. The accuracy was fine for hunting, but I'm a bit of an accuracy nut and expected more from a Sako. I prefer my rifles with a fully floated barrel, that is provided the actions are bedded correctly and Sako has that process down pat.

Re: Another Manlicher
The Bavarian carbine was made for hunting and it would be a shame not to hunt with it.The way I see it a rifle like that with a good hunting provinence (scratches and dings) is worth more to me than one pristine in the box .When I m too old to hunt anymore, at least I can sit by the fire in my old lazyboy and fondle the gun and dream of hunts long past.
Re: Another Manlicher
Always thought a Mannlicher-stocked savage 99 with a SRC buttstock would have been way cool!
Re: Another Manlicher
I'm with you barbossa. Honest wear and skinned up places are reminders of hunts long ago.
