6.5 sweede smokes a N.D. moose today

Post by rafter-7 »

My Uncle just came back from the northern badlands with a 1300.00 pound bull moose today. the kill was late and info is schatchy at this time .... but a moose tag in ND is very hard to get ... a once in a life time hunt and to get a 1300 pounder is a great score... Kudooos for Dennis!

The 6.5x55 is one of my top 5 favorite centerfire calibers of all time. Excellent score!

Congratulations on your uncle's moose. Your picture looks a lot like the badlands my dad's from and where I lived for about 10 yrs. I lived Sentinel Butte and Beach, ND. Still have family back there, or abouts.

Most all of the 6.5 millimeter bullets seem to fly true and kill what they hit. I have three 6.5 Grendle's, two 6.5x55 Sweds, and a 6.5x284 for my "long range" necessities. The sectional density is excellent and they fly pretty flat too.

Congrats to your uncle. Those tags are tough to score. I've applied for the last 12 years with no luck. My dad has applied every year since the beginning and hasn't scored one.

I sure would not have thought Moose live in that kind of habitat. That is interesting.

Just talked to uncle and the moose is at the meat shop and the head and cape is at the taxidermist. The shot was a thru and thru on the lungs. the spread was 40.5 inches across with nice pans. and the cavity had gallons of blood in it so the meat should be good.
The moose after impact only took one step and layed down

Love them Sweedes! Any idea what kind of load he was using? I like the 120-130 grain bullets on whitetail and hogs, but I have never had a chance to take anything bigger with it.

Don't you all know that rifle is way under-powered for that size game !! Its barely suitable for mule deer at medium range.
