Grandson Troupe with first deer

Post by crs »

Up early and in the blind by 6:15, time dragged until, at first light, a few bucks began to feed in the food plot field where winter wheat and rye have sprouted. After what seemed like eternity, some does entered the field about 8:30 and a couple of the younger bucks began butting heads. As soon as the larger doe stepped into the clear, Troupe dropped it with his 7mm-08.
Needless to say, he was very excited and happy, especially since this was the first time he had fired the rifle since I installed and sighted in the new Leupold VX-II scope.

Good job, Troupe! :D And, a big pat on Grandpa's back for taking him out. That's got to put a nice smile on your face.

Congratulations to Troupe (and an AttaBoy to his support team).

Dinner report:
Tonight we grilled the tenderloins wrapped with thick apple smoked bacon, served with asparegus spears, long grain and wild rice, and great bread. Delicious!
The Chilean cabernet sauvignon complemented the venison perfectly.
Now for a whiskey and a cigar! :D

8) One nice thing about Texas is that there are lots of cartridges/guns a young person can use to hunt deer without breaking the law.
